My understanding is that there's some controversy about the IBA.

Nevertheless, this is a pretty strong statement.

A lot of confusion, people are thinking the two boxers are going to face each other, but they aren’t. They are in different weight classes.

Dawkins wanted to weigh in (see what I did, there?), but FB didn’t like it.

From what I am seeing it appears Khalif has this:

5-ARD stands for 5-alpha-reductase deficiency, a rare genetic condition that affects sex development.

                      Key facts:
                      • It’s caused by mutations in the SRD5A2 gene, which encodes the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase type 2.
                      • This enzyme converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) — a more potent androgen critical for the development of male external genitalia in utero.

                      What happens in 5-ARD:
                      • Individuals are typically genetically male (46,XY) but are born with ambiguous or female-appearing genitalia due to lack of DHT during fetal development.
                      • At puberty, testosterone levels rise and may cause masculinization, such as deepening of the voice, increased muscle mass, and growth of a penis from what was previously a small phallus or clitoris-like structure.

                      Other features may include:
                      • Undescended testes (cryptorchidism)
                      • Absence of menstruation (if initially raised as female)
                      • Little or no facial/body hair (due to reduced DHT)

                      Social and medical implications:
                      • Many individuals are raised female and may later transition to a male identity.
                      • The condition is one of several classified as a Difference (or Disorder) of Sex Development (DSD).

Treatment options may involve hormone therapy or surgery, but decisions are often individualized and increasingly guided by patient-centered care as the person grows.

I could see where this would go unrecognized in less developed nations, but by the time he was competing internationally l, it would have been identified.

Given what @jon-nyc posted above about 5-ARD, is Khalif a "trans"?

If one were to apply the "sex assigned at birth" standard, what sex or gender should be noted on Khalif's passport? Which class or category should Khalif compete in?

Sex isn’t assigned at birth. It’s determined at meiosis, or determined at gamete fusion, depending on how you want to think about it. I think the former is more accurate.

I have no qualms whatsoever about letting Khalif live out his/her life as whatever gender they want. In these extremely rare types of situations, I’m all for compassion and understanding. And most importantly, privacy. And I would definitely not consider Khalif “trans”.

But if Khalif wants to box, it would absolutely need to be in a men’s division.
