Same. I did not know that the "etiquette" was to tip on the actual bill amount pre-tax.
So both of us have been overly generous, despite Aqua's attempts to smear us as no-nothing foreigners who need to mind our own damn business.

If I'm honest, this is due more to laziness than generosity, as it's easy to calculate.
Anyway, tipping should be banned. In England they give you blowjobs at the table and drive you home afterwards if you tip more than 5%. And that's just the blokes. When you visit next year make sure you ask for a happy ending over dessert.

If I'm honest, this is due more to laziness than generosity, as it's easy to calculate.
Same here, I always tip based on the total (including tax) but before discounts, if any.
BTW - in case anyone is dying to know, I'll usually tip 25% for pizza delivery, 20% for restaurants, bar, haircut, and 10% for scenarios like @LuFins-Dad 's above (or similarly, carside pickup from restaurants), and have shifted to 0% for basically everything else such as coffee shops, panera, jimmy johns, etc.
