@jon-nyc deeper in the 1st Amendment's tweets, there are explanations that echo what White is saying.

I was curious so I looked at newspapers from France, Spain, Argentina, and Mexico. You had to scroll pretty far down to find an article not about him, his impact, people’s reactions, etc. It helps that the editors had plenty of warning and it’s a slow news week. I guess a similar level of fame to Muhammad Ali, although maybe centered around different countries

@89th said in 3 cheers for Jupiter: Heck, 1 in 4 Americans believes the sun revolves around the earth. So for every 4 Americans at tncr we have 1 believer? So we probably have a few here. I'm pretty sure I know at least a couple.

@LuFins-Dad said in Maneuverable: That made me nauseous just thinking about it. I think it was in former astronaut Mike Mullane's book where he talks about "space sickness." It's something that's much more common than you'd think, affecting a high percentage of astronauts. He says the consequences of vomiting during a space walk can be fatal. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1566070206002141

@George-K said in Does a muscle relaxer affect finger strength and dexterity?: @kluurs said in Does a muscle relaxer affect finger strength and dexterity?: Whitney Houston died in a tub following taking a muscle relaxant. Yes, they found Flexeril in her postmortem exam. Xanax and 11 other medications might have something to do with it. Though the level of drugs was "mild," when you combine them with cocaine, alcohol , you're playing a deadly game. Also, she was found face-down in the tub. The face down part I can understand. It was not easy for me to get out of the tub. I used extremely hot water - and I truly could not move - almost like paralysis. If I weren't as strong as I was, I could have collapsed face down. Certainly, the other meds wouldn't have helped her.

@Axtremus said in The Bizarre Resurgence of Barnes & Noble: I haven’t visited a Barnes & Noble for a long time. I will make it a point to visit one soon just because of this thread. From the article @Aqua-Letifer linked earlier: … the lesson is so simple. // If you want to sell music, you must love those songs. If you want to succeed in journalism, you must love those newspapers. If you want to succeed in movies, you must love the cinema. Perhaps there are limits to this “simple lesson.” I cannot quite see a resurgence of Block Buster stores based on love for the movies or the cinema. On the political front, does it follow that “if you want to succeed at governing, you must love the government (institutions)”? This would suggest that the “the government is the problem” crowd will not succeed at governing, no? Your lack of reading comprehension is amazing. He wasn't talking about customers, he was talking about the people in leadership positions at companies. Honestly, if you can't be bothered to even read the article, don't comment on it.

It makes perfect sense, but I imagine it’s a bit of a sausage fest. Especially in blue states.

Hey, at least he believes in evolution. That's a definite step in the right direction! Because if people think that politicians were intelligently designed by an all-powerful, loving creator, it would actually be pretty worrying if you consider the results.

By the way, I sit on an OSMB for an NIH-funded trial. In general, like with their grant review process, they staff these things with mostly academics in the relevant field. NIH people do attend but they obviously aren’t necessarily experts in every subject where they issue grants. (“OSMB” or “Observational Study Monitoring Board”, is the equivalent to the “Data Safety Monitoring Board” used in drug trials, the difference is OSMBs are for observational studies whereas DSMBs are for interventional studies. )
