@Copper said in The President commemorates 1/6: @taiwan_girl said in The President commemorates 1/6: The white house is public building. Should anybody just be able to go in there and walk around? Yes, I have. It wasn't that long ago that you could just walk up to the whitehouse, and you could enter on weekends. Then there was a line if you wanted to get a tour. The Capitol was wide open on weekends. You could park in the first parking space at the bottom of the stairs if you got there early. Then you could walk inside and walk around all you want. There was no security screening at all. When I become president we will re-open these buildings on day one. I think things started to change when President Obama’s good friends and counselors started planting and exploding bombs in the Capitol.

I believe I read a book about the French doctor murderer during World War 2. [image: ?u=https%3A%2F%2Fimages-na.ssl-images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F51rasonTa-L._SY346_.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=adc0e7651bb4f6cca64c19057af5681b6ab03d7635662bc1ce3fd4da9f753f3a&ipo=images]

Singapore also. But they have a COE (Certificate of Entitlement). That is a certificate to allow you to buy a car. Started a long time ago to limit the number of cars available because it is a small island. The COE has to be renewed every 10 years (I believe). At that point, almost every people buy a new car, as it doesn't make sense to buy many thousand of dollars on a 10 year old car.

When I was in Tokyo last month, I went up to a tall tower to take a look around. I suppose Tokyo is no different from other mega-cities, but it just doesn't end. [image: 1673148740607-img_8481.jpg] [image: 1673148747712-img_8480.jpg]

You guys don't understand the culture down here. I watched the NN police commissioner on local news. He seems like a good guy. The news person put the microphone in front of him and he gave her all the facts. He didn't have a podium surrounded by politicians. This was maybe an hour or 2 after the incident. He didn't wait hours or days to give the story, he just gave it. He told the whole story, except of course for names. Of the students he said "They are safe. They are interacting with officers and having some fun, slapping some high fives and teasing each other," An unusual approach for a commissioner.

@Jolly said in White Gold: There are only so many things you can do with an electron... I rather suspect we've got quite a way to go before we exhaust the possibilities. The Lithium Ion battery was only prototyped in 1985.

Eh. Flag football. Girl, on girls' event. Probably a preexisting condition. Not an aberration. Sad, yes, but not the same thing.

As I said in another forum thread, I think there is a "oversize" perception of the influence of Twitter vs. the reality. Kind of like that graph that I believe @Copper posted about perception vs. reality.
