ABBA has good music, and usually mild enough that they can be easily relegated to the background mentally when you need to focus on something else. Should be doable.

The 'something else' in my case would be jumping over the side.

I know a guy who played double bass on cruise ships. It's not something you can do for a long time.

      I was only joking

I could live a life of no responsibilities, free food, free maid service, and 100% leisure. But then, I am an extraordinarily strong person. Don't try this at home.

        Education is extremely important.

          ... a cruise company is launching a three-year, 130,000-mile, escape-your-daily-life cruise for a relatively affordable $30,000 per person per year. ...

              I could do it.

                  Could never do it.

Just today I met up with my old downstairs neighbor from Brooklyn, now in Sandy Eggo. She and her mom are heading on a 75 day cruise circumnavigating Africa.

                  No thanks.

If you don't take it, it can only good happen.

My dad did this. It was great. I could easily do it as I enjoy cruise ships.

I am with you. I think I could do it.

For cruises, you can do as little or as much as you like. You want to go watch all the entertainment, shows, etc.? go for it. You want to sit and read or just relax? You can do that too.

For shore excursions, I usually just design mine own and dont feel pressured that way.

The biggest problem I think I would have is laundry. Not so easy to do, or it is quite expensive to have them doing it.

This reminds me of the AT.

A shitload of people, for various common reasons—retired, midlife crisis, life reset—get this idea into their heads because:

                      1. It's something very much out of their routine
                      2. They've heard of the AT
                      3. Therefore, good idea.

What they don't understand is that yes, you will have a worthwhile experience but it's not anywhere close to what you think it's going to be. It's terribly boring for most of it, pitching a tent in a nighttime hailstorm is not romantic and unless you're seriously introverted, spending that much time alone is probably going to fuck with you. (If you're with somebody, the odds that you won't hate them for long stretches are zero.)

I'd say about 10% of those who say "they can see themselves doing that" actually try and of that group, the vast majority drop out.

Fair go to you if you like cruises, though. I doubt I could do it.

                      Please love yourself.
