In the end though, I don’t think any trauma centre could have put William Wallace back together again. Being drawn and quartered was pretty much a mortal wound. If anything, what Wallace needed was a one time gas passer, like our good Dr. George

I am really surprised that there have been no “pitching tent” jokes. I applaud the maturity of the room.

I listened to a podcast called 'When Things Fell Apart' on Excited Delirium a few weeks ago. A number of women had died and cause of death had been diagnosed in that way - the claim was having sex after taking cocaine caused it. It turned out they'd been murdered by a serial rapist. The implication was that the condition had been pretty much invented by a pathologist why really didn't know what he was doing.

Anyone know why some personal names, (Yabu for example) was changed to something similar, longer, but not as it is in the book. Also several others had name changes although others were left as is.

There is something written on that Tower sign in what certainly is Georgian script but what it means I don’t know. I’ve looked up the words republic, Georgia, embassy, and honorary consul. The latter looks closest but not identical:

    საპატიო კონსული

Thanks! I just kind of look on the internet for the embassies/consulates and it sent me here for the Republic of Georgia. I went to the front desk to ask, but between my relatively poor Thai language skills and their non-existent skills in a language other than Thai, we really were not able to understand each other. I did try and explain that I was looking for the Republic of Georgia but 🤷

Amazing how language changes over time.

I don't remember where I saw this analysis (Was it MacKellan's?) of a speech in Richard III.

In 16th century English, "You" was the proper way to address someone who merits your respect. Someone who is of higher station than you. On the other hand "Thou," is an informal way to address someone. This is why the Amish use the (now) antiquated form of addressing someone. By saying "I am glad to see thee," you're saying "There's no societal difference between us. We are equals."

In Richard Gloucester visits the morgue (grave?) of Lady Anne's father in law (whom he killed), whom he intends to woo for marriage. She starts her rebuke by addressing him as "you." Throughout her conversation, she gradually changes to "thou" and "thee," indicating that she no longer has any respect for him.

  • Often replicated, never duplicated.

There were three. Linda Ronstadt, Maria Muldaur and Bonnie Raitt who came on the scene around the same. Always like Maria the best. Still do.
