The biggest deter from China invading Taiwan is economic. If the world can hold together against Russia and would hopefully respond the same way against China, I think this would stop China from invading.

Yup, you have to be very careful. I think there are possible good investment chances in China, nothing is what is seems however.

@jon-nyc I had to look up the definition of conflate. LOL. Means to to bring together or to blend. I believe that in the article, EV was referring to "traditional" electric powering a battery vehicle. I believe that Toyota is looking at H2 vehicles as different from "EV's" (But I am actually not 100% sure, so will have to research more)

My old high school had pretty crappy boys teams, at least most of the tine. OTOH, our girls were juggernauts. The school trophy case was thirty feet long and littered with girl's state championship trophies. Those girls worked very hard for those trophies. Sweated blood and tears. I have a very high appreciation for female athletes. It cheapens their sacrifice and efforts to compete against faux women.

And the welcome committee, which is the group who hand out coupons and a bottle of wine to new residents And I know where the HOA rules are. Here's one that surprises a lot of people: All roof vents shall be either painted black or another color matching the roof. There are no white PVC pipes coming through our roofs, we are upscale!

For those paywalled out of the Rolling Stone piece, goto https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/chris-rock-will-smith-oscars-slap-netflix-live-stand-up-special-1235341227/ Although it doesn't seem to translate that well to print. "Rock used the last minute of Selective Outrage to answer the question he’s gotten a lot since the Slap: Why didn’t you do anything back? “‘Cause I got parents,” Rock said. “‘Cause I was raised. And you know what my parents taught me? Don’t fight in front of white people.”

@George-K said in Suspended at Georgetown for asking questions: https://brownstone.org/articles/what-happened-at-georgetown-law-with-covid/ I arrived at the meeting with curiosity. I had no interest in banging my fists and causing a commotion; I just wanted to know the reasoning – the “rational basis” that law schools so often discuss – behind our school’s policies. There were four simple questions: What was the goal of the school’s Covid policy? (Zero Covid? Flatten the curve?) What was the limiting principle to that goal? (What were the tradeoffs?) What metrics would the community need to reach for the school to remove its mask mandate? How can you explain the contradictions in your policies? For example, how could the virus be so dangerous that we could not take a sip of water but safe enough that we were required to be present? Why are faculty exempt from masking requirements? I feared there were simple answers to my questions that I had overlooked: these administrators made hundreds of thousands of dollars per year, surely they must have had some reasoning behind their draconian measures. Right? The contradictions appeared obvious to me. The data seemed to be clear, but maybe there was an explanation. I wish he would have stayed on topic. His little dogs about Ukraine made him seem a partisan. That takes away from his message.

Was on that bridge last night on the way home from the airport. The problem is they are not replacing it, just adding a bridge beside it that will supposedly handle the through traffic. The original obsolete bridge will remain for local traffic, but there won't be any way to enforce that. I'm glad they are finally doing something about it, but it's still a bandaid. The aging bridge will still have to go at some point. Another thought - I doubt people will appreciate the extra orange barrel and traffic jams enough to translate to votes.
