    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/education/2023/05/30/disney-movie-controversy-florida/70271146007/

Teacher showed "Strange World" (a Disney animated feature film) in class, some parent reported the teacher, teacher got disciplined by the school board and now being investigated by the state's education department, parents pack school board meeting seemingly to defend the teacher.

Strange world indeed. But hey, it's Florida.

I'd be more concerned about the idea that a Disney Movie about saving a plant is an effective way to teach earth science... but hey, as a kid, who doesn't like a movie day at school?

Doesn't teach earth science, but it's about the most effective way possible to teach them to give a shit about earth science.

The school board and state department of education both opened an investigation into Barbee, who has argued that the Disney movie related to a class Earth science lesson and did not show sexually inappropriate content.

Some parents felt that the lesson did show sexually inappropriate content.

Earth science doesn't seem to be a problem for either side.

Sorry, it'll never seem normal to me. This is weird to see in a kids movie.

Yeah, Wall-E would have worked, too…

Now, does anybody believe for a minute that this movie was innocently selected to teach about Earth Sciences?

Might have been trying to pull a fast one on DeSantis. In the most acceptable possible scenario, a poor decision. Kids are subjected to earth friendly tropes from birth. They did not need this.

Yeah, I wasn't commenting on this particular movie, just the general idea of showing kids in a classroom a movie.
