    On the surface it sounds good, but underneath you still have the same leadership that instituted these policies to begin with. Now I suppose that it’s possible that they honestly learned the error of their ways or more likely that they never actually believed in the policies to begin with but felt compelled to implement them. It’s most likely, though, that it was outside pressure and influence by donors and political leaders to force them to change their approach.

      Outside pressure.

      It's a self perpetuating monster in academe. Sadly, even in medical schools, where merit should reign supreme.

        I'm sure they thought it was a swell idea.

        But then when you see it in practice, there is no way it can be taken seriously.
