@LuFins-Dad Yes it is very strange. See also this discussion here (if anyone else cares to investigate): https://community.nodebb.org/topic/526/-nodebb-plugin-twitter-twitter-tweet-embed-plugin/

Let me tell you about jungle culture...Note the two black dudes beating up on one guy. That's why people are scared of groups of young black men, because they tend to attack in multiples. Which is why, you avoid conflict with them, but if the ball goes up, you hurt the nearest one as bad as you can, as fast as you can. Kick him in the balls, break his knee cap, destroy his eardrum or try to shove his nose into his brain. Then go after the second one like a screaming madman.

@George-K said in Hey George: @Aqua-Letifer said in Hey George: Everything he mentioned about Australia was part of my mandatory "international student guidance" weekend. I'm sure. Also, everything he said about docs also true, LOL. We had huntsmans in our house sometimes. Yeah? Whoa. They're not venomous, are they? Some are, and they can fuck you up but I don't think they're life-threatening. I learned to check my shoes always before putting them on, never have food out that you're not actively protecting (indoors doesn't matter) and take real fast showers.

@Horace said in Oh oh...here comes a new "privilege".: or expects society to compensate for it. I'd say it already does. I can't think of a better example than influencer marketing. (Pre-COVID, anyway. The game's gotten weird out there. I hope to the point that it completely deflates but hey, wishful thinking.) Good-looking young people who have the right uniform and speak American English make great influencers. For every ugly guy out there netting 1 follower for his cooking advice, influencers are raking in 1,000 for yet another hackneyed reel shilling their avocado bullshit. And so the latter amass a following without trying very hard. Which meant that traditionally, companies would reach out to them for product deals. Because bigger audience. Except the quality of that bigger audience is garbage. It's mostly thirsty sleazes and wannabe influencers themselves. Ugly guy, for his smaller audience, converts a shitload higher percentage into buyers because his ugliness self-screens for unengaged followers. If you're listening to him, it's not because you like what he's wearing. It's because you're into cooking. A lot of micro-influencers are normal-looking moms, retired grandpas or immigrants who know how to do things others are interested in. They're starting to get a lot more traction as companies develop a rudimentary education in social media statistics. Whether you're pretty or ugly, it makes no difference. Either way it'll make some things easier, other things harder. But yeah I still agree, the social justice bandwagon is inevitably comin' to town.

@Mik said in Surgeon General's Advisory on Social Media and Youth Mental Health: Yep. The very last thing you want is a kid with too much time on their hands. But there's a just enough free range that is healthy. We were completely free range. Our parents had no idea if we were within five miles of home. Same. It's a fine line today, though. Where we live, it's normal to see kids out and about on their own, but just up the road, it's not unlikely to have the cops called, maybe a social worker visit, who the hell knows. Nextdoor posts alone can practically draw you a Karen Line of Demarkation.
