@George-K Did the post have any such allegations about Obama and Clinton? That is, after all, the story my post was responding to.

Imagine if he put out a release saying how unfair it was for them to tar him that way but then added “of course I’ll still meet with them any time as I have an open media policy. I’ll just try to get them to understand that, just like talking to them doesn’t imply agreement with everything they say and do, the same goes for all other outlets”.

Matt Yglesias had an interesting take. In a contest like this when the front runner status is large and sustained political reporters get bored - how often can you write the story ‘Trump still leading the pack?’ So when one candidate shows even a slight bump, they all rush to write about him/her, which helps generate more buzz and more bump. But it fades. This happened with DeSantis to an extent (though he had far more built-in expectations behind him), and Vivek a lot. On the Dem side it was with RFK. He is now down to 8-9% in the polls, from 25 or whatever.

The libertarian in me says if he wants to take extreme risk on his own accord, the state should not stand in the way, as long as he does not expect the state to come to his rescue if his risk taking goes sideways.

This is as ridiculous a notion as saying the VP can choose to reject electors from certain states. It’s quite a Trumpian move. Like a many such moves, it would be disastrous if were allowed to proceed.

Bogota elevation is 8,000+ feet. There isn’t much air up there, especially on a hot day. I think that little nose-down move was to pick up a little speed. He might have been a little surprised by the lack of lift at that altitude.

@Mik said in The Poverty Simulation: Maybe they’re trying to stave off reparations. My guess would be the opposite.

I learned how to eat those things while on my first business trip to Helsinki in 1986. The Baltic crayfish were running at the time so the markets and shelves were loaded with them. We were hosted by Nokia to a sauna evening which post sweat lodge included copious amounts of crayfish and beer. If I recall correctly the technique they showed us to eat them was pretty similar to what the video shows.

It’s remarkable that no matter where you live, you are still reasonably likely to be mugged in Chicago.

@Horace said in Racism, straight up.: This might be evidence of a genetic craziness in white people. “Your ancestors were abused, so it’s ok to abuse your offspring”. I might add they weren’t abused in Canada that I am aware of.

All this talk about Russia's use of hypersonic weapons in Ukraine got me to thinking. Does anyone really believe that the Russians have this weapon and we don't? Just because we haven't talked about it, until recently, doesn't mean that we don't have it.
