@89th said in Ozempic mental health side effects: So basically, it's really the most unreliable statistics database EVAH. Voluntary, no baseline (denominator), possible duplicates. You noticed... Interestingly, I don't recall NPR, or any other outlet, being critical of VAERS. Of course, I could be wrong.

@George-K said in Little Brown Pill: However, a new UK-led study has shown that molnupiravir "can give rise to significantly mutated viruses which remain viable," lead author Theo Sanderson told AFP. Sanderson, a geneticist at London's Francis Crick Institute, emphasized that there is no evidence that "molnupiravir has to date created more transmissible or more virulent viruses." Seem to be opposite opinions.

That's great. My brother in law in Wisconsin bought a house in the country about 10 years ago and he quickly cleared the land around the house, fenced it in, and bought 4 donkeys. No reason, other than they had the space and wanted some farm animals (they since have chickens, pig, sheep, etc). Anyway, the donkeys were cool... low maintenance (hay, grass, water) other than any medicines. They were also much more powerful than you'd expect up close, when you saw them from afar. Taking a page out of @Jolly 's book, a few years ago a wolf broke in to the pasture and I had to spend about 2 hours with a shotgun watching over the land until they were able to get a trailer ready to haul them to another farm until they could fix the fence.

Interesting. I'll have to look that up. I do have a lot of respect for Attenborough. Plus his voice is better than Ambien for putting you to sleep.

New Blue Tarantula Species Discovered in Thailand Link to video Go to about 1:30 of the video above Between the sky and sea, nature appears to favor blue, as do we humans. Yet the color is rare in nature—especially not in “a blue-violet hue resembling the color of electrical sparks,” which is how a research team described a new species of tarantula in southern Thailand. The spider, which can measure nearly three inches long, sports iridescent streaks of neon color on its legs, back, and mouthparts. The spider, named Chilobrachys natanicharum, was already known in the pet trade as the electric blue tarantula, but a recent study published in the journal Zookeys finally confirmed it as a unique species. For the study, Chomphuhuang and colleagues went on an expedition to the mangroves of Phang-Nga Province, searching at night in the humid, muddy vegetation for a tarantula’s telltale sign: Shroud-like webs covering its burrow

I don't like the Orioles much these days, but I actually did like Brooksie's Orioles. Jim Palmer, Dave McNally, Mark Belanger, Bobby Grich, Boog Powell, Don Baylor, Paul Blair, Frank Robinson, Earl Weaver I saw those guys a lot while I was working at Fenway. Paul Blair threw me a baseball one night during BP, I was selling popcorn. I dropped it trying to catch the ball, then picked it all up off the ground and sold it. The popcorn I sold, some other guy grabbed the ball and took off. I saw Earl Weaver steal 3rd base one time while getting thrown out of a game, he picked it right out of the ground and threw it into the stands. Some kid caught it and was out of the building before they could catch him. Good times RIP Mr. Robinson

@George-K said in Does the GOP have a mechanism for not nominating Trump?: SRSLY, if he wins enough primaries, is there some back-door, obscure rule that could be invoked to prevent him from being the nominee? Even if there is such a back door, they should not use it. If the primary voters want Trump, the party should honor that.

But wait! There's more! Iranian Spies Have Infiltrated the American Government, Lawmakers Warn The Iranian government has infiltrated the Biden administration and obtained access to sensitive U.S. government information, according to a coalition of Republican lawmakers who are investigating the matter. Iran has repeatedly demonstrated in the past several months that it has access "to restricted U.S. State Department emails or government servers," according to a letter sent Wednesday to the White House by congressional Republicans and obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. The series of leaks, which have appeared in Iranian state-controlled propaganda outlets, "constitute a significant security breach of U.S. government property by a foreign adversary" and could indicate there is a mole inside the Biden administration, according to Reps. Kevin Hern (R., Okla.) and Joe Wilson (R., S.C.) and Sen. Bill Hagerty (R., Tenn.). The probe is being handled by the Republican Study Committee, Congress's largest Republican caucus, and could force the Biden administration into admitting Iran has breached sensitive U.S. networks... Both leaks, the lawmakers write, have the hallmarks of an Iranian intelligence operation and "may indicate that [the] Islamic Republic's intelligence apparatus has been able somehow to obtain access to restricted U.S. State Department emails." Access to these networks is closely controlled, meaning that Iran either hacked the system or was passed the information by a human source. "This could mean that U.S. government employees leaked restricted and sensitive government documents," according to the lawmakers. "Either possibility is gravely concerning." The lawmakers also express anger at the Biden administration for ignoring "repeated congressional inquiries into the circumstances that led to the suspension of Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley's security clearance." Members of Congress, they say, "have obtained more information from the pages of the Tehran Times than from U.S. government briefings." "It is shocking that the Tehran Times, a propaganda arm of Iran's terror-sponsoring regime, somehow obtained sensitive internal State Department documents about the suspension of Special Envoy Rob Malley's security clearance," Hagerty told the Free Beacon. "The Biden administration must explain how this happened, especially after recent news reports about how current administration officials and those close to them were directly involved in the so-called Iran Experts Initiative, an Iranian regime-run foreign influence network that operated in the United States and around the world." Hagerty and his RSC colleagues are asking the White House to verify if the repeated leaks are authentic and "describe the steps your administration is taking to prevent further leaks of information to the Iranian regime."

@Doctor-Phibes said in Amendment 2: @Aqua-Letifer said in Amendment 2: @Doctor-Phibes said in Amendment 2: @Aqua-Letifer said in Amendment 2: Everybody counts or nobody counts. My point, which seems to have got missed, is that people who refuse to follow evacuation orders are quite possibly putting emergency services in danger. If a church is told to evacuate, it should do so, just like everybody else. Probably should, yes. How far are you willing to go to force them to do that? I don't know. The idea of forcing people to leave at gunpoint makes me very uncomfortable. However, the thought that somebody would use a law as a justification for not acting in their constituents best interests also makes me uncomfortable. And the thought of people refusing to leave, and then expecting other people to risk their lives as a result is also quite difficult. That's about where I'm at, too. I mean, yeah, they should probably leave in a situation like that, but I dunno if it'd be in their best interest to be forced to do so. As for putting rescue teams in harm's way, it's a drop in the bucket. Their entire career is based on saving people from themselves and their ignorant decisions.
