@Aqua-Letifer Law provides grounds for prosecution, yet whether to prosecute remains a choice. I have no sympathy for the businesses of the world who profit by infringing the rights of others. Still, it costs large sums of money to prosecute a case in court. Imagine a world where LLM generative AI turns out to be a flop, where ChatGPT spouts gibberish rather than prose. In such a world, the developers of ChatGPT would have exhausted their initial tens of millions in early funding, present a few conference papers, and that would be the end of it. Most authors/publishers would likely never know that their copyrighted works have been used to train an AI large language model, and even if they know, they would see insufficient monetary incentives to sue. (Why spend millions in legal fees to sue a bunch of developers who have exhausted their funding and has no prospect of making more money with their gibberish AI? Just for the principle? There are many researchers and developers using similar datasets without permission who aren't getting sued.) Now that the world see the value of a certain way of doing generative AI, it is right that we seriously consider how to divide the large expected bounties among all contributing parties, authors and publishers included. Let the lawsuits run their courses. Let the advocates and the lobbyists make their pleas. And see what public policies emerge from all this.

I suppose one can say that perhaps Melanie is just trying to be a good mother.

@Jolly said in Rep. Greene Want to Cut Sec. of Defense Salary to USD $1: Compromise...Let's pay SecDef what Trump was paid during his Presidency... Trump was paid, wasn't he? He just gave it away, or returned it.

I posted this yesterday. The other really disturbing thing is that this was not the first time that this kid demonstrated such violence.

No but I'd bet it mentions weight and balance.

Hopefully not hoodies and gym shorts. To change the rules for one guy is absurd.

@George-K said in Where's the Governor?: Hobbs didn’t disappear. She was in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday for a meeting about border issues with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas following a weeklong visit to Taiwan, an important Arizona trade ally. She flew back to the state Thursday to meet with President Joe Biden, who arrived Wednesday night for a visit that promoted his campaign messages. Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes was acting governor while Hobbs was out of state, but he left the state Wednesday for a pre-planned trip to Washington, D.C., where he’ll meet with congressional staff and members “about the need for federal funding for elections,” said Fontes’ spokesman, Paul Smith-Leonard. State Attorney General Kris Mayes, next in the state’s line of succession, is also in Washington, D.C., for “meetings” and will return Friday morning, said her spokesman, Richie Taylor. That just strikes me as odd. Does a governor relinquish his/her role when leaving the state? In some states, yes.

@bachophile said in Hoochi coochi secretary: @Doctor-Phibes that’s because left hand guitars are more expensive. At least then. And he could only afford a righty. I understand Paul McCartney did the same, but I guess by 1963 Paul could have bought any fucking guitar he wanted. Jimi also, but I think with him it was a matter of pride. Knowing where he rose from. Somebody should develop a left-handed piano. It's the one thing that's been holding me back
