Really now, what sort of person would be so careless as to leave one of their legs just laying about the Subway? You’d think they would notice it missing before leaving the premises. People nowadays have no decorum about their appendages lower limbs.

@Doctor-Phibes said in Cocktails: @LuFins-Dad said in Cocktails: It’s not whiskey. It might taste vaguely like whiskey, but in Virginia all hard liquors have to be sold through ABC stores. Beer & Wine are sold in grocery stores. Fireball is sold in packs of 20 for $5.00 at 7/11. There's two types, right? The little bottles we got from a liquor store were 66 proof, 10 bottles for $10. I think they're flavoured Canadian whisky. Yeah, that’s what my second post detailed. There is a strong malt beverage called Fireball that is sold at the grocery stores and convenience stores. It claims “Whiskey flavors” but is basically a wine. The bottles look like the fireball whiskey bottles…

@George-K said in Playing musical instruments and cognitive trajectories: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/gps.6061 Abstract Background The accumulation of age-associated cognitive deficits can lead to Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and dementia. This is a major public health issue for the modern ageing population, as it impairs health, independence and overall quality of life. Keeping the brain active during life has been associated with an increased cognitive reserve, therefore reducing the risk of cognitive impairment in older age. Previous research has identified a potential relationship between musicality and cognition. Objectives Explore the relationship between musicality and cognitive function in a large cohort of older adults. Methods This was a nested study within the PROTECT-UK cohort, which collects longitudinal computerised assessments of cognitive function in adults over 40. Participants were invited to complete the validated Edinburgh Lifetime Musical Experience Questionnaire (ELMEQ) to assess their musical experience and lifetime exposure to music. Linear regression analysis was performed using cognitive data from PROTECT-UK. Results Analysis identified an association between musicality and cognition in this cohort. Playing a musical instrument was associated with significantly better performance in working memory and executive function. Significant associations were also found between singing and executive function, and between overall musical ability and working memory. Conclusions Our findings confirm previous literature, highlighting the potential value of education and engagement in musical activities throughout life as a means of harnessing cognitive reserve as part of a protective lifestyle for brain health. @Doctor-Phibes said in Get your iPhone wet? Skip the rice.: Yes, the IP X8 rating covers immersion for a specified time, which can vary. I think the phone ratings are for 30 minutes. Thank God!

@George-K said in Sunday Respite: Smaug the Magnificent: @Doctor-Phibes said in Sunday Respite: Smaug the Magnificent: My dad smoked one well into his 50's So did mine, as a matter of fact. I suppose I'm talking about the self-worshipping academic types. Students and faculty. My dad came from a very different world than I did - English public school (i.e. private boarding school), followed by Cambridge University. His parents were fairly well-to-do. He escaped it (quite possibly deliberately, it's a long story) to become a scientist in the north of England, but he never really escaped the look. Tweed sport-jacket and a vaguely bemused air. The pipe fitted him perfectly. I did receive a fair amount of teasing from my friends, but he was so genuine and well-liked an eccentric that nobody ever thought the worse of him.
