I’ve never been to the Holocaust museum there. But I’ve been to Yad Vishem and toured Auschwitz and Birkenau. The latter was particularly impactful. Unlike Auschwitz, it’s not really a museum with exhibits. It’s just an empty camp. When I saw it, it was late in the day after all the tourist buses had left. Virtually all visitors come via bus from Krakow. I was with my Polish girlfriend at the time and we drove there. It was just us, no one else, walking through that camp. It was silent and eerie, and unchanged. It could have been the summer of 1945.

You’re right… Normally, you only fund that much stash in an ice cream truck.

People in my neighborhood have often used Bagster. It's like $30 for the bag and $125-150 for the pickup. Seems to hold a lot. I'm jealous of her urge to purge, it's a constant sticking point between my wife and me! Let's say she takes a while to realize something is not needed. Wait, why is she looking like that at me right now?

To be clear, the judges are ruling on what the law says, so it makes logical sense. But maybe a law will come about out of this. @taiwan_girl I expect one of your infamous "2 years later" updates when that law goes into effect! 555

Nvidia’a advantage is in their software. All the toolchains that developers use to make AI stuff is based on nvidia. Nvidia was funding GPU classes in the 2000s at universities. This is a deep moat. It’s not about just creating chips (which is hard enough)

Why leak to select news organizations only, as opposed to, say, just dump it on the Internet in general?

Interesting. I wish there is video (or instructive animation) showing how one was used for its original purpose.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy0npj1n6rko The boss of Starbucks is leaving the company after less than two years in charge as the coffee chain looks for a fix for its flagging sales. Chief executive Laxman Narasimhan is stepping down and will be replaced by Brian Niccol, the head of Mexican grill chain Chipotle, the company said. The shake-up comes as Starbucks is grappling with a slump in sales amid a backlash to price increases and boycotts sparked by the Israel-Gaza war. Howard Schultz, a former executive who oversaw the growth of the coffee chain into a global powerhouse, said he believed Mr Niccol was "the leader Starbucks needs at a pivotal moment in its history". One thing I have noticed is that in the US, Starbucks has become more a 'carry out" coffee shop than a "sit and relax" coffee shop. They seemed to have redesigned a lot of them to eliminate seats, etc. They are still considered a "hang out" place in Thailand, and their business seems to be doing good. The pics below are my "go to" Starbucks store in Thailand, in a neighborhood called Lang San. One of only a few Starbucks "community stores" in the world. Supposedly, a significant part of the store profits goes to local growers, etc. [image: LANGSUAN_COMMUNITY_STORE_Bangkok_Thailand-1024x683.jpg] [image: maxresdefault.jpg]

https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/intel-sells-stake-chip-designer-arm-holdings-2024-08-13/ Intel (INTC.O), which is cutting thousands of jobs as it struggles to stay relevant in the chip industry, sold its 1.18 million share stake in British chip firm Arm Holdings in the second quarter, a regulatory filing showed on Tuesday. Intel would have raised about $146.7 million from the sale, based on the average price of Arm's stock between April and June, according to Reuters calculations. and Intel has said it is focused on developing advanced AI chips and building out its for-hire manufacturing capabilities, as it aims to recoup the technological edge lost to Taiwan's TSMC (2330.TW), opens new tab, the world's largest contract chipmaker. The push to energize that contracting foundry business under CEO Pat Gelsinger has increased Intel's costs and pressured profit margins, forcing it to seek cost cuts. Intel and ARM both declined to comment on Tuesday when contacted by Reuters about the share sale. "This looks to be consistent with the restructuring plan and the renewed focus on liquidity and efficiency that Gelsinger laid out from the last conference call," said Benchmark Co analyst Cody Acree.
