I've been wearing a smart watch for a few years - I'm floored at the amount of historical data I have on myself. My HRV, sleep stages, resting heart rate, etc. -> all of this reacts very predictably to things like high sugar intake, alcohol, exercise, fasting, etc. If medical researchers can somehow get their hands on this data I'm sure they'd find an absolute ton of predictive indicators.

Here's a story from 1983 that Randy Newman told about when Bruce let him be the Boss: My wife and I Went to the hotel in the hills That's right The Bel-Air Hotel Where a very good friend of ours Happens to be staying And the name of that young man Is Mr. Bruce Springsteen That's right, yeah Oh, we talked about some kind of woodblock or something And this new guitar we like And you know what he said to me I'll tell you want he said to me He said, "Rand, I'm tired. How would you like to be the Boss for awhile?" Well, yeah Blow, big man, blow

Yes, but: Maybe the AI revolution will involve winner-take-all effects and such massive capital spending needs that the winners of the last decade will also be the winners of the next decade, propelling the S&P much higher despite historical warning signs. That was my first thought. But I don't expect the next 10 years to be equal to the previous 10.

I don't have one right now. Interestingly it's all downhill to work. The one gnarly hill is right before my house - about a one mile steady climb. My 2 reasons for biking are -1) just getting outside. It's a nice route to work, mostly lakeside. 2) Get exercise time in consistently (I've been doing a lot of stationary spin exercises classes on peloton for years - so i should be able to bike well enough)

@xenon said in Nate's gut says Trump will win...: You know, maybe its the avalanche of shit that he's gone through over the past decade. I'd say most of it brought on by himself. But still - he's gone through shit like no one I know... and.. I dunno... maybe Americans like a fighter. There's something there, I can't put my finger on it. There's obviously something there. Good points in this thread. Yeah, Americans want a leader, warts and all.

@jon-nyc said in Herridge - "Taking a page from Oct 7.": Paragliders are for a few hundred meters over a border. That limits the options. True, if your thinking is that limited. operatives trained to build light aircraft and drones from “off the shelf” materials available in large home improvement stores Al Qaeda operative traveled from Afghanistan to Saudi Arabia for financing, tasked with developing a weaponized drone capability for use against the US or its interests overseas “As (CIA Director) Tenet told us, ‘The system was blinking red in the Summer of 2001.’ Officials were alerted across the world. Many were doing everything they possibly could to respond to the threats. Yet no one working on these late leads in the Summer of 2001 connected the case in his or her in-box to the threat reports agitating senior officials and being briefed to the President..” And airliners are only good for transporting people.

I assume the wapo investigative journalism is behind a paywall. I wonder if technically it’s true that musk was temporarily illegal, or whether there are built in grace periods or grandfathering. I am aware that overstaying a visa or improperly using a visa needs to be disclosed when applying for a new one. Yet Musk’s transition went through.
