@george-k said in The day we let Covid-19 spin out of control: @kluurs said in The day we let Covid-19 spin out of control: @george-k said in The day we let Covid-19 spin out of control: The rollout of Covid-19 vaccines brings with it the risk of a new wave of asymptomatic infections. The two vaccines authorized by the Food and Drug Administration have been proven to prevent illness, but not asymptomatic infection. Even after vaccination, the coronavirus may still temporarily take up residence in the lining of the respiratory tract, making it possible to infect others. Interesting Yes. And suppose that the virus finds safe harbor in your maxillary sinus, and you don't get sick. You'll test positive, and presumably, be infectious. If you have no symptoms, you might not get tested. You might just continue to go about the community spreading the virus.

@loki said in Back to voter suppression: “VoteRiders estimated that up to 25 million voting-age Americans lacked a government-issued photo ID.” Yeah, I call BS on that. I watched a video one time of a right wing activist asking blacks on the street about their ID and how difficult it was to vote and they all were, well, basically insulted. Every one of them had ID of some form. I realize this could be a slanted presentation but seriously, it is not difficult to get ID and it would be a great idea to require the Federal or State gov'ts to provide free ID for voting an all other ID purposes.

@jon-nyc said in No ICU beds left in Mississippi?: @loki said in No ICU beds left in Mississippi?: Notice how ICU bed shortage stories just collapsed. Do a coke news search on ‘ICU capacity’. I see lots of stories on NoCal and Texas in the last 24 hours. First thing as saw. Multiple articles. Liked the title of this one the most as ending lockdown is suddenly important. https://sfist.com/2021/01/24/bay-area-icu-capacity-swings-to-23-4-could-lockdown-end-soon/

It’s unclear why the health agency waited over a year to release the new directive Prior to the CCP virus pandemic, for individuals to be considered a case, they must test positive and show clinical signs and symptoms. But to be counted as a CCP virus case, only a positive PCR test is required. And no matter how many times an individual is tested, each positive test is counted as a separate case. The WHO is now advising that a positive PCR test that does “not correspond with the clinical presentation” should be verified by taking “a new specimen” and retesting it. Well....

Hopefully not, but so far responses in defense of Taiwan have been good. This weekend, a US aircraft carrier group entered the South China Sea. Now I realize this probably was planned earlier, but it could have been canceled and was not. Statement from the US NSA this weekend said that the commitment to Taiwan was “rock solid” and that the US looks forward to increased “ties” with Taiwan. Of course, talk is cheap so actions in the future are the real test.

Yes, he was always a conservative. That's why I posted originally that he probably voted third party in 2016. But his business is rhetoric and social viability, so hating Trump is the obvious move.

@taiwan_girl It’s an unknowable question, basically a variant of the ‘hard problem of consciousness’. I once made the point to my son that his red and my red could be different and we’d never know. It made him a bit agitated to think about.

@george-k Love watching the videos of in process. Sometimes I get to the point after the underpainting (toned canvas, thinned brown oil paint) and just want to call them done because I like them like that.

@aqua-letifer said in Jordan Peterson - Season 4 Episode 1: Matthew McConaughey: @jolly said in Jordan Peterson - Season 4 Episode 1: Matthew McConaughey: MM was filming a movie around Baton Rouge several years ago. He likes boiled crawfish and seafood, and used to frequent a hole-in-the-wall place my SIL and her husband ate at pretty frequently. He kept things very low key, driving around town in an old, beat up pickup, wearing boots, jeans, a t-shirt and a trucker's cap. It was kind of a point of pride in the place, that pretty much everybody knew who he was, but didn't bother him other than to say hello if they walked by his table in the back. I'm guessing that was when he was doing True Detective? Got me. He finally had to quit dropping by, when The Baton Rouge Advocate did a story on him. One more tidbit to the story...When he did Free State of Jones, which was filmed at Clinton, my nephew got a single line bit part, because McConaughey remembered him (my nephew has a pretty impressive red beard). His part was edited out in the final cut and the only appearance my nephew makes is as the body of a dead Union soldier.
