The country's bonkers enough already. "Further" to the right? Trump was conservative? I am led to believe that he was a cult of personality pretending to be conservative. I didn't mean further to the right than Trump, I meant further to the right than they are now. If you prefer, I could say 'even more fucking bonkers', so that you've got a bunch of conspiracy theorists and QAnon kooks competing with left-wing idiots like AOC. Trump was an opportunist, IMO. All that Bible stuff and embracing guns and the flag - sheesh, was anybody taken in by that? I was certainly never sold on his devotion to Christianity, nor to the military. No, but many were, or at least were engaging in a willing suspension of disbelief. Politicians say the darndest things, but in the end, it's how my own politics color everything they do that matters. Amen. NNTTM. You can attempt to heap shame on those who choose a side politically, but in the end choosing a side is the only way to achieve any of the miniscule political power an individual has. Or you can vote third party because your preference is to not be associated with real politics but rather the idea that you're above it all. I guess the nightmare would be that that third party politician would win, then you'd have to take some personal responsibility for your support of a politician that would almost certainly be more ridiculous than the ones for whom you find support unconscionable.

I'm not sure that's a real resume. Is there even a "River Brook University?" Googling it, I only see it on sample resumes.

For other highly imaginative and decidedly fictitious ways to recharge a TAH with built-in batteries, see Crank: High Voltage (2009). I would put it in my "lame movie" thread except I can't find link to a freely streamable version of it. :man-shrugging:

Once I was in a cynical mood while going through airport security. I was looking at all the time and expense that went into it. Hundreds of man years wasted per day just by people all over the country standing in line. Not to mention the ritual of taking off your shoes. I called it the modern equivalent of jizyah, the tax that non-believers had to pay to their Muslim rulers. Anyway every time I see that fence for the rest of my life the phrase ‘Magat tax’ will come to mind. It’s the enduring physical symbol of Trump’s Great Lie.

Luke’s girlfriend was over last night. Me: Luke, is your sense of taste getting better? Luke: A little. Me: Hannah, how about your taste? Hannah: Oh, I never had COVID... Why do you ask? Me: Well, I figured you must have lost your taste if you started dating Luke... ... ... Luke: You do realize that one day you are going to be connected to life support, and the decision will be in my hands, right?

When our place opened a new building, with new ORs, the heart surgeons were insistent on having a good sound system installed. Being insistent ≠ being smart. The speakers were positioned on the walls, toward the foot of the OR table. So, anyone standing at the table would hear everything from one ear, depending on whether they were standing to the right or left of the patient. However, the gas-passer would face the foot of the table, so he would be facing both speakers. A much more satisfactory audio experience as far as heart surgery goes. Just sayin'. This guy also liked Mason Williams, I might add.

@klaus said in Twitter suspends another. Why?: Twitter as somehow protecting child sex crimes. I posted a story about a week ago about Twitter not suspending someone who posted, er, suggestive videos of a teenager. When the parents contacted Twitter, they were told that this was "not a violation of their policies." They're suing. You're right, this might be it.

WSJ: A surveillance judge clarifies that the FBI can falsify evidence without much fear of punishment. The government employees of the “resistance” who never accepted Donald Trump as our president have finally performed a useful public service. Together with the judges of the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, they have demonstrated for all Americans how easy it is to turn the spying tools of the federal government against domestic political opponents. Even after the Obama-appointed inspector general of the Department of Justice found “at least 17 significant errors or omissions” in a series of approved surveillance warrant applications to spy on Trump associate Carter Page—and even after a criminal conviction of an FBI attorney for doctoring an email to make it appear that the patriotic Mr. Page had never assisted U.S. intelligence—the FISA judges are still refusing to apply any significant punishment to the government officials who misled them.
