The NYT (unless they shadow edited their article) implies that the fire extinguisher blow contributed to his death, but doesn't go so far as to assert it.

Then on Wednesday, pro-Trump rioters attacked that citadel of democracy, overpowered Mr. Sicknick, 42, and struck him in the head with a fire extinguisher, according to two law enforcement officials. With a bloody gash in his head, Mr. Sicknick was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support. He died on Thursday evening.

I did also hear that he was bludgeoned to death (from here probably, not reading it from a news article.)

Does the distinction matter that much though? Is it in dispute he was hit by a fire extinguisher? (I don't know).

Is it reasonable to assume he died from injuries sustained during this mob action? Does the fire extinguisher being the medical cause of death matter much? The mob did something to him, unless this was some sort of crazy coincidence.

There's plenty to criticize about NYT, but this seems pretty minor.

    Actually, it's pretty major.

Getting the facts wrong on a murder is not good for the legal process. Or the political one.

Disclaimer - I'm not a huge fan of the death penalty.

But - what was wrong with the guillotine? Is it the mess aspect?

I dunno much about the chair - but I have to imagine there are a few moments of torture with that when it first turns on.

You could make a pretty fool-proof guillotine with modern tech.

    Kinda bloody, though.

With the exception of a bit of feces and urine, bagging an electrocuted prisoner is pretty easy. And, they pay OT to do it (never understood why they liked to do executions at 0200).

@jolly My understanding is it happened, it just wasn't the fatal blow.

No blunt force trauma according to the CNN article.

After you render your own phone unrepairable,

How can you be that sure if you know what the average person does about phone hardware, which is absolutely nothing?

We are not talking about the “average person”, but one who knows how to open up a modern smartphone.

And it's far more reasonable to presume that he has an average understanding of phone hardware as very few people as population percentage know more than nothing. You're unreasonably presuming he's a phone hardware expert because buzzkilling and ribbing people to piss them off is your hobby.

Yes, but also the coordinated withdrawal of Klobuchar and Buttigieg. The party establishment had the discipline to block Bernie.

Right. The firewall strategy with Clyburn as the centerpiece. I am sure there is a great story and we know it starts with Bill.

    I don't think I've ever had pheasant.

I have, however, known a number of pheasant pluckers.

    BTW, read the comments.

January 6 happened, so anything the Dems do, is just hunky-dory. Tradition or Constitution be damned,

Maybe not a good idea to give them ammunition then. Exact same can be applied to the BLM protests of last year.

Okay, so let's say a few doofusses (or, more formally, doofi), give or take close to a couple of hundred. Not quite a multitude to feed but a few loaves and a couple of fish probably would have sufficed.

I suggest tossing them in a frying pan for a few minutes before putting them in the oven. It brightens them up, both in color and taste.
