It seems they are going to get us used to it gradually.

    Nice of them.

In which case I'm sure we can all agree to use the scientific method

and call it the Wuhan Flu

And of course let's blame the Chinese, just in case that has any meaning

I think the third wave will be muted by the vaccinations as well as warmer outdoor weather allowing more distancing, but yes we are awfully close to have such silly behavior.

People are tired, especially the young. At some point, people throw up their hands and say to hell with it...

Fair. Especially as it’s pretty clear the virus isn’t really dangerous for young folks (obv the danger of transmitting to others is there)

The big question remains whether the variants are more damaging to younger people.

True enough, but what we are seeing here is that more young people are showing up at the ERs. Yet ICU stats remain low and hospitalizations and are not dramatically increasing like in waves 1 & 2.

Too bad cigarettes went away, they were such a great performance enhancer

I guess there was a downside too

“Never Trump” is just another way of saying “I don’t think critically”. But, as always, cultures are comprised of low common denominators, and TDS is a low common denominator.

Could only read the first couple of paragraphs due to non-subscription. But looks interesting.

I dont know a whole lot about the subject, but it is interesting that with heat/cold, everything tries to find the middle.

Thinking about the math a little bit ...

Suppose we deliver 200MM doses into people's arms by the 100th day of this new administration, that's roughly 100 million Americans fully vaccinated. Chances are there would be more because the single-dose vaccines are increasingly being used more.

The "100th day" brings us to April 30. The "100 million Americans" figure is roughly the number of all Americans 55 and older. Take out the anti-vaxxers and you can conceivably push that line down to "50 and older."

Once you get to that 50~55 line, it is quite conceivable that you can open eligibility to "all adults."

What is determining if the new system is a .XX upgrade or a new whole number upgrade?

Sometimes it’s because the engineers feel like the changes are significant or fundamental in some way. Sometimes it’s because the marketing folks think it’s a good idea. Sometimes it’s the lawyers trying to break some agreements tied to specific version numbers. Overall these things can be quite arbitrary when we looked at from the outside.

Yup, the Chinese economy has grown a super lot consistently over the past 20 years or so.

But it has moved to the point that it needs the "external" or export economy to keep that growth. So, it needs to be shown that any bad moves made by mainland china will have significant economic impact to it.
