A friend notes that politics has begun to feel like an arena where many people can process and regulate their emotional turmoil indirectly. Anxiety, depression and anger are hard to deal with within the tangled intimacy of family life. But political tribalism becomes a mechanism with which people can shore themselves up, vanquish shame, fight for righteousness and find a sense of belonging. That's rich, coming from the queen princess of TDS hysteria.

@george-k Interesting read. Lots of knee jerk reactions around.... in the media (they love the headlines that attract eye balls) and in the government/policy world.

@jolly As my husband keeps telling me "It's 3X3. They're trying to brand it Friday." I've been waiting for the mountain climbing events.

@axtremus said in Hours Worked: Many more “exempt” workers are paid “salaries” rather than hourly wages. Then you have “gig workers” and freelancers paid by the task rather than by the hour. Estimating the actual “hours worked” using only payroll data in this day and age would be very inaccurate. This

@copper said in Oz locks down: It depends on your goal. If you want zero virus transmissions. Shut down your country. Close all businesses. Put everyone out of work. Allow starvation to kill everyone. Simple, no more virus transmission. That would kill the virus as well. The virus is a living organism with as much of a right to life as any other. There are ethical and environmental considerations here beyond our selfish fixation on humans.

That was great, thanks! The evocative music made me want to cry. You got a little glimpse into what a ginormous production that movie was. Was that Bette Davis in the car with Vivien Leigh?
