@lufins-dad said in The Outbreak: I am thinking that the Xi variant of the Wuflu is a very different beast altogether from WuFlu Alpha- Wuflu Delta. It makes me wonder if it’s so different that it ultimately doesn’t crowd out Delta, but instead exist simultaneously? Its a good question, I saw some talk in epidemiological twitter the other day about co-infections, delta and omicron. Apparently its possible, but quite rare.

I couldn't seem to get onto their site. I've never tried before now, so I couldn't tell you for sure if that's a new feature or not.

Let's get our treatment up to a level so as to render infection as dangerous by % population as the flu. That's my personal "throw up our hands" benchmark, and I think we can get there within a year. We started out with a goal of keeping the death rate below that of heart disease. We passed that one waaay back...

@copper said in Meanwhile, in Florida...: @axtremus said in Meanwhile, in Florida...: Cloth masks should be made with two or more layers of a breathable fabric that is tightly woven (i.e., fabrics that do not let light pass through when held up to a light source). Mr. Jenne's mask probably didn't have the required two or more layers. Lock him up. Au contraire. Women's panties have two layers in the crotch, one end unsewn.

I think it is a cool million degrees. There isn't much there to conduct the heat.

Pooled testing is standard here. In fact as far as I remember, the technology was first done here in Haifa at the Technion. This is from March 2020 at the start of the pandemic. https://www.technion.ac.il/en/2020/03/pooling-method-for-accelerated-testing-of-covid-19/

@bachophile said in Hay Bach!: Avasarala has Cushing? Adrenal adenoma? I was going to guess breast cancer, with mets to adrenal, and bone (knee and skull). However, looking closer, that's not a good guess. I don't know what that would be in the suprasternal area, and the primary doesn't show up. Cushings makes sense considering the hypertension and the cortisol level.

And in the hotel room, he can maybe have one of those gifts too (e.g., the CD/cassette recorder).

@friday said in I'm such a geezer: @lufins-dad said in I'm such a geezer: I’ve seen the movie several times and wouldn’t have gotten it. Seriously? That's like the biggest line in the whole movie. That and "Fish are friends; not food." Yeah it's like a main quote/theme in the movie. Then again, I have a 3 year old.
