@LuFins-Dad said in Dedication can be carried a bit too far: @kluurs said in Dedication can be carried a bit too far: It happened to a woman friend of mine in an ultramarathon. A woman in the crowd helped her out by giving a couple of water bottles and helped was her off before she got to the finish line. It's not all glamour. Glamour? Where’s the glamour at all? I suspect you can name 10 winning marathoners. I suspect if we poll the entire forum without googling, we would collectively be able to name 10 winning It’s not uncommon. I think quite a few who train for these events have an “Oh my gosh .. I need to go NOW” moment. It’s part of learning, getting to know what fluids, sugars & foods to put into your body before, during your races, especially in hot weather. For me, my ‘moment’ was during my 1st ING NYC .. the port a potties were full with lineups and I had to be scooted into a funeral home’s bathroom by a Jewish volunteer fellow. I made it. No mess. The lesson I learned was half-strength Gatorade only during my races.

My earlier draft disappeared. Too bad, because it was brilliant! The long and short of it? It is expensive as hell, but they also made REALLY bad decisions. The restaurants they ate at were the most expensive in the park and it looks like they splurged (without tipping, according to the receipts). They also would have had to stay at the most expensive resort and upgraded the room. The lightsabers are $200 each, so they either bought accessories or were wrong. The other thing is that these parks aren’t designed and priced for one day trips. They price them to encourage you to stay longer. Last year I got a quote for a 4-night/5-day trip to Universal at a moderate resort. The total cost with express passes was $4050. Add on $400 per day for food and souvenir (You can easily spend $35 per adult per meal and $30 per person snacks) and you are at $6K. Instead, I bought annual passes, used the annual passes to get 30% off the premium resorts (which includes the Express Passes at no charge), and booked a 6-night/7-day stay for a total of $4200. The passes also give restaurant and merchandise discounts between 10%-20%. I charged everything back to the room. When I checked out, we had spent $2200 on food, drink, merchandise, and tips and we didn’t count pennies at the restaurants. We ate what we wanted where we wanted. On one hand you have $1200 per day at the moderate resort and medium restaurants, on the other you have $900 per day at the top tier resort level and restaurants. And on top of that, we are going back this Thursday through Wednesday and getting a suite this time. $3200 and our tickets are already paid for… Assuming we spend the same on food, that will be $771 per day. It would have been $571 for a regular room…

He had to resign as mayor before I moved here. I cannot have any respect for a guy who wrote a check to a hooker., much less bounced it.

@jon-nyc said in The party of Gun Care and Health Control: kick an estimated 600,000 people off health insurance. They will ask some able-bodied adults with no dependents to do some work. And this will reduce some Medicaid. Obamacare (ACA) will still provide free health insurance to all who want it, sick, healthy, old, young or otherwise.

@Jolly said in Cowboy Mounted Shooting: Horses are trained to drop their heads and stand still, when you drop the reins on their neck. Nothing like a well-trained horse. I trained Simon to "ground tie." If I dropped the lead rope onto the ground, he would stand still, as though he were tied to the ground. I could walk away, and although he would look at me, he's stay put.

In my youth I knowingly bounced a couple checks so we could eat. You'd be surprised what you do when you have very few choices.

Kinda the point. She is a star in her league. She wouldn't even make a team in the NBA.

@Jolly I posted the RT offer when it came out. The Russian State TV offer was new to me. Your guy is very popular in the Kremlin. They must have a thing for Principled Truth Tellers over there.

It will be interesting to see if they can finally come up with a "root" cause of this.
