Your AOC post of the day!: It's already established that being "fully vaxxed" does not develop the antibodies needed to fight Omicron Has it? I'm very much against the dubious miracle claims about the efficacy of vaccines, but from what I understand, the available data suggest that the vaccines do very significantly reduce the risk for severe complications, including for Omicron, and do still reduce infections and transmission. "Prevent", "stop", "work" etc. - these are the wrong words to discuss the vaccines. You need words that refer to a degree. Once we agree on that, we can discuss the degree and at what degrees the vaccines are useful or not. https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2022/01/no-omicron-immunity-without-booster-study-finds/

Just watched Away. It feels like we've spent a year getting to Mars. We liked it more than George- but I agree quite a bit of focus on each of the character's personal lives. What's interesting is that Netflix decided not to renew even though it had good ratings - perhaps a result of pandemic and a desire to control costs.

@copper said in Government Covid Benefits For Seniors: @axtremus said in Government Covid Benefits For Seniors: What would you like to see as government benefits to seniors for COVID? They were victims just like 9/11 or Katrina, let's start a victim fund and have the president fly over to see the devastation. They are victims. And the various skin colors of the victims should make a nice photo op. You forgot Pearl Harbor and The Holocaust

@friday said in Never wash your bath mats in the washer: Seriously, old towels on the floor are a safety hazard. That's a good point, one that escaped me probably because (1) I don't have old people in my household (yet) and (2) my bathrooms are so small that there really isn't room for one to "fall" in them; there is always a wall or a vanity within an arm's reach to hold on to for support or to break a fall. :man-shrugging:

Nursing homes cannot pay what hospitals can. Another reason we need vaccine mandates.

@lufins-dad said in Why people are quitting their jobs: The inflation of the 70’s was in a large way responsible for the explosion of women in the workplace as single income families couldn’t get by. What happens now that we are seeing 70’s type inflation again and there’s nobody left to send into the workplace? Immigrants and robots.

They will be engaged in a shooting war with google and amazon. Apple will control most of the land between Portland, OR and Malibu. Amazon controls everything east of the Mississippi. Google is mostly guerillas living in the hills. The area outside the US is a wasteland. Aqua, there's a novel in there, somewhere... Eh, William Gibson will beat me to it.
