A lady I used to work with, had three sons that all played center in college. The oldest played with the Bills and I think the Patriots for a few years as a long snapper, but unlike a lot of those guys, he played center in college at LSU. IOW, he had a bit of versatility, rather than being a one-trick pony. Not that he was any big deal, but he hung around long enough to get a bit of pension. Versatility is a big deal in the NFL. If you can play multiple positions on the line or you can play safety and a bit of corner, maybe help out on special teams, you can have a career. Don't know LeGlue's contract, but even minimum would be more than $800,000 this year, over $900,000 next year, then about $1M in 2024. If he shows a little something, maybe somebody give him a better deal after his rookie contract. Will Clapp would be a similar guy for the Saints. A center from LSU, he was a 7th rounder, then managed to stick on the practice squad and played in 18 games over four years, starting 7, mostly at guard. The Saints have gotten better on the OL this year, so he was odd man out and signed with the Chargers. I suspect he'll play a similar role. Hopefully, since he's vested in the pension plan, he can hang around a few more years. The NFL has the worst pension plan of the major professional sports. The player starts to draw his money at 55, and the minimum is $21,000/yr for a guy who only played three years to $105,000 for a guy who played ten or more.

Maybe “number as high as it’s ever been” but I wouldn’t say the problem is as bad as it’s ever been. It was concentrated on a few ports, in fact mostly one. Now it’s distributed over many. As a stylized example. 100 ships outside of of one port is a much bigger problem than 20 ports, each with 6 in the queue.

Best comment: “Mexico isn’t just going to pay for the wall, they’re going to build it.”

@Jolly said in "Build the wall!": Good fences make good neighbors. Just want to point out that aside from The Road Not Taken, this is perhaps the most infuriating Frost quote you can come across. Libs love to believe the neighbor's a simpleton for repeating his father's line without questioning it. Conservatives take it at face value without much context. I think there's a lesson there. Anyway, really what it means is that you shouldn't build a wall unless you know why you're building it. And it's important to point out that nature would naturally destroy the wall over time—that's why they have to repair it every spring. Third, perhaps most importantly, the only reason it can be repaired at all is because they both agree to participate. Ironically, it takes periodic collaboration between both you and your neighbor to maintain a mutual boundary. Makes all the sense in the world to reference it here when talking about US/Mexico. tl;dr: Props for correctly applying the quote in a proper context. Most people who use it don't manage that.

On January 23, 2020, the Doomsday Clock was moved further, to 100 seconds (1 minute 40 seconds) before midnight, meaning that the Clock's status today is the closest to midnight since the Clock's start in 1947.

Yes, she is really good. It seems more like an Olympic event than music. How exactly do you score something like this. Would you have judges, like figure skating, that would allow for opinion, not just technical merit? Or would you simply use the slo-mo replay to she if she pushed all the right buttons at the right time? Would you have higher scores for keys way down at the ends of the keyboard? Would extra volume serve as a tie-breaker? Using all the pedals would certainly help.

@Rich said in McD’s prices: ... it’s best to use the app, as there's better deals, and he’s more likely to get the right order. This is true. Can also get free food items with the app. They make excellent unsweetened iced tea now, too. Skip the fries, have a sammich with veggies, drink the unsweetened iced tea. It may not be the most healthy, but it's not completely unhealthy either.

@George-K said in RNC to Trump - we might not pay your lawyers.: If you run for president, we stop paying your legal bills, Republican leaders who worry that Donald Trump could hurt their midterm chances by announcing a presidential run too soon..... Dont understand this. If the Republics think that President Trump is the greatest thing for them, then I would think they would want him to announce he is running for president. By saying that they are afraid he could hurt their chances in November seems to be saying something else

@Jolly said in I got yer electric vehicle right here.: Rumor is GM was the one who killed it. I've read several stories about how the auto industry, not only GM, was heavily invested in killing public transportation. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

@Axtremus said in This picture got me thinking: @Jolly said in This picture got me thinking: Candid vs. Posed. 1956, cameras were few and far in between. Subjects are seasoned public personalities very aware of being the focus of attention wherever they go and always had handlers/bodyguards around them. Never truly "candid". You can’t have it both ways. On one hand you say cameras and pictures of celebrities were rare and on the other you say celebrities were always prepared for photos…
