TNCR Pandemic Weight Loss Challenge

I need to find some more easy Mediterranean type diet recipes. I make a super yummy dinner last night - sautéed up some mushrooms, shallots, garlic, sun dried tomatoes (costco, packed in olive oil), Greek olives, roasted red peppers (from a jar) and spinach, a little tomato paste and a splash of white wine - served it over polenta rounds (Melissa’s organic sun dried polenta, fried up in the already oily pan after removing the veggies) , topped it with grated pecorino Romano (Costco). It was great.

And yes - the workout thing - we have a fantastic new YMCA (two pools, lots of classes, nice space for weights and machines) 3 blocks from our house - I am still paying the ~$60 a month to help keep it going, but we haven’t been in a year because of COVID. Probably will start going after I get vaccinated. Steve just bought more weights for home - but wow it’s hard to do that stuff at home, not sure why. I even have a bike set up in front of the freaking TV and haven’t been on it in several weeks. I did just get home from a 30 minute very brisk walk with Steve on the bike trail, though - so that’s a start!

OK tubbos. I'm in. I'm convinced.
The fasting stuff is interesting. What I also find interesting, is the input on certain foods having a negative effect on your respective bodies, and where certain foods were consumed for years until stumbling across removing certain foods had a huge positive effect.
I have met so many people that are staunch gluten-free, and have heard the story repeated that removing grains, for example, was such a remarkably positive thing that just changing what one eats is enough to get weight under control, and feeling 1,000 % better.
I did find a very positive effect when trying Jordan Peterson's diet. We switched to a simple chicken slab with a vegetable or just a small salad. Every night. I confess I did feel better! But it's so hard to stay away from fast food. I'm amazed at the cooking expertise of many of you, and that is an impossible act for me/us to follow.
Anyway, I'll go for it. 20 lbs is what I need to peel off. I could also go with growing a couple of inches, but, one thing at a time.

For me it’s discipline to do a semblance of a workout at home. I mean weights and isometric muscle building stuff, not cardio (though that’s important too).
I was so disciplined about hitting the gym 6 days a week for years, now I can’t get myself to lift some dumbbells that I can almost reach from my desk.
This joint endeavor is just what I need to guilt me into it.
Ok. I would do that too.

Since today’s the last day before it starts, I think I’ll have an Italian sausage sub and a beer...
@Aqua-Letifer @89th @Copper Santinis ftw...
-
@lufins-dad cheers!
-
Ok, I'll join in, damn you.

The weight loss challenge or the Italian sausage sub and beer?
-
@doctor-phibes On my long run today, I was thinking, "Wait 'till Phibes hears cycling season has begun!" (saw a couple groups and several solo riders)
-
I've seen a couple of people out there. Maniacs, in this weather.
-
It’s been in the 60’s the last week in DC. We had a temperature drop yesterday and today, but I’ve given thought to getting the bike out of the shed.
-
@lufins-dad Ok summarize the rules or whatever? Maybe this can be March and April?

Not much in the way of rules. Everybody weigh and measure in the morning and snap a couple before pictures. You can post them if you like or keep them private. At least once a week we report our progress. Progress isn’t just weight loss (gain for Jon). Maybe it’s moving down a size in pants. Jeans that were getting a bit snug are suddenly feeling a little looser... Somebody asks if you’ve lost a bit of weight... Increased stamina...Whatever... Share it and show off. Most of the success from Karla’s program is the comraderie and support from others. We’ve already got that built in...
-
Sounds good! Funny you mentioned jeans...lately most pairs have been quite snug and there usually my metric that tells me I need to get back into shape a bit. Pounds-wise, I’d like to lose about 15-20 total (maybe over this year) but more importantly I’d like to get a little more flexible. Having young kids teaches you how inflexible you are very quickly. That and Aqua’s sister.

Ok, my Monday morning check-in and kickoff here.
I weighed in at 173.1. A quick check shows my average weight across Feb 2020, the last month I had regular gym habits, was 188. So right at 15lbs to gain.
-
Alright, here we go.
Weight - 175 lbs. I'd like to get it down to 160 lbs, but what I'm really after is more energy.
Maybe I could just swap weight with Jon?
-
192 today, would love to be around 170-175 and just more flexible!
@LuFins-Dad i ate 3 homemade cookies last night, one last hurrah
