Also, if you're angrier at this kid than you are at the people beating policemen to death with a fire extinguisher in the Capitol building, or kicking people in the head in Portland, then something's wrong.

Quite obviously that's something that should be seriously considered here.

Something no one said here ever. What his father did after the fact cannot justify what this kid did.

      Didn't say they did.

What his father did after the fact cannot justify what this kid did.

I don't think the kid's a hero. My opinion on this is very much a "pull the goalie" kind of thing; I know it's ridiculous but it's what I think anyway: my take is, how bad were the father's motivations? For example, if he wanted to "stop Pelosi" or any nonsense like that, I'd need more details because I wouldn't automatically condemn the kid. If his principal motivation was to show up and support Trump, then I'd be much more willing to condemn the kid. I very much care about what the father intended. You probably find that immaterial but I do not.

      Please love yourself.

The kid's 16. The father's old enough to be a grown up.

        It does actually matter.

Turning in your father to the FBI for what amounts to criminal trespass

No, sorry, if the courts press further charges then you are going to be absolutely wrong about that. You don't get to downplay the charges because he's a fringe member of the side you endorse.

Not sure the distinction is relevant, but I'd say Jackson will be racking up some big student loans.

The harm, ruin perhaps, he has inflicted on his whole family, not just his father, is grossly out of proportion to the miniscule harm done to the nation. That doesn't fit my definition of a hero.

I don't think the kid's a hero by any stretch, but is the takeaway here to let your loved ones commit federal crimes? What should have been done instead, just ignore it?

No crime had been committed when he called and his call prevented nothing. So yeah, he should not have done it. A 16 year old's judgement, or lack thereof, is not sufficient to bring the feds down on your family.

I'm writing this as of reading Post #9, so forgive if I'm repeating something somebody else said.

I agree with Mik's statement. I'd like to know more about the family dynamics before I could answer Jolly's question. That does not sound like a harmonious family unit. If the kid had issues with daddy beforehand, that puts a different light on things . . . the mother doesn't sound like she has too tight a grip on reality, either.

And over twenty people were killed last year in BLM and Antifa riots.

I'm reflecting on the many warnings the feds got ahead of 9/11, and which they did not take seriously. Somebody sure as hell was "short-sighted" there, but it wasn't the people who tried to warn in advance -- including the two Israelis who flew to Washington for the express purpose.

@jolly The kid supposedly warned about something that might happen, and you call the reaction "short-sighted". I'm saying in 9/11, the warnings were justified, and it was the feds who were short-sighted, and nobody has come forward to condemn those who tried to warn about 9/11.

I'm not endorsing what the kid did. But your comment that there was short-sightedness is unjustified.

There is not enough known about the kid, the dad, their motivations, and their actual intents to make any kind of judgment.

If the Oklahoma City Bomber had a kid and the kid reported the dad beforehand... Good job. If this kid was just embarrassed and frustrated because his dad embarrassed him because of his politics and the dad made some nebulous statement then the kid is an asshole.

There is a whole world in between those two positions, and the truth is that it probably falls somewhere in the middle and they are both idiots.

I would say that is pretty close to the truth. If you will notice I have not argued for either label. I simply think the kid should not have made the call.

                                  True, but this is family.

                                  The Mansons were family, too.

                                  I was only joking

That sounds like something Micheal Corleone would have said.

I do. I place a very high emphasis on family. In this case...

Because I know much of the law is corrupt and applied unequally. Second, because AFAIK, there is no major crime involved.
