I haven't finished the speech yet, but does he ever address the European elephant in the room?

Yea, that was when he embarrassed Warren.

All politics aside, since Trump says whatever he wants (he repeated many lies again, but they sound so good), it's not surprising folks who aren't aware they are lies like what they hear.

One of Matt Yglesias's 17 takes:
The decline in the stock market since Trump’s election is not particularly large or noteworthy, but it is genuinely extraordinary to see this kind of market reaction to a new GOP administration whose main policy ideas are to install business-friendly regulators and cut corporate taxes. You have to be making some extraordinarily bad trade policy choices to get that result. There’s been years of speculation that Trump’s trade instincts would be curbed by market reaction, but last night he presented himself as entirely undeterred and eager to levy more tariffs. An extended portion of this speech was dedicated to promising higher taxes on groceries!

I saw the same CBS poll that LuFinn saw, but other polls such as CNN's showed similar results. Amazing, for a two hour speech. Of course, it didn't hurt the Dems made literal asses of themselves.
Trump believes that jobs and economic prosperity are paramount. The tariffs issue, the emphasis on ship building, the AI initiative, energy production, etc., are all private sector jobs driven. My opinion is that Trump is willing to take a short-term market hit, if jobs can be created.
As for Ukraine, Trump has decided to end that war and it's up to Zelensky to decide how it ends. The Europeans can step up or bend the knee to Moscow. The U.S. have bigger fish to fry in the Pacific.

What poll? The only recent one that I’ve seen for March is Emerson, and they have him 48-43, which is basically where he was in January with them.

It’s an average. It incorporates the poll you mentioned.

I had it on the TV in the event he would make some revelatory remarks about the war in Ukraine and his recent extortionist regime of unjustified economic sanctions against Canada. Since nothing revelatory or even particularly relevant was mentioned about either I tended to focus on other tasks while the person on the screen droned on and on.
Throughout it seemed nothing more than the usual theatrical campaign harangue. It was full of slogans, chest pounding and inane asides all containing little, if at all any, substance above and beyond saccharine filled melodrama. In short, tortuous

I missed a Donald Trump speech?
Damn, I've been wondering what he was up to.

I was just interested if there would be any big revelations about the Ukraine strategy since Trump was getting beat up in the media and by world leaders (except Putin), but it was just a regurgitation of his inauguration speech if you even watched that lol. Ending woke (good), taking over territories (greenland and panama canal), lots of lies (inflation, deaths building canal, DOGE cost savings, etc) and lots of focus on building back the american production machine (AI, oil, consumer goods). @Jolly had a good summary above.

Yeah, when a Daily Kos poll is one of the primary polls in the average, I’ll move on, thanks.

You missed the part where he mentioned that he had an hour long call with Zelenskyy and the mineral deal was back on?
You realize that public trust in the media is at an all time low, and is actually upside down? If the media is hammering him it actually helps him? Trump, unfortunately, is walking out of the Friday fiasco stronger than he was going in. The concerns over the tariffs are the biggest driver of negativity, and as soon as they are lifted it will probably swing back again.

I did not hear Trump say anything about a telephone call. If he did, the call was either made prior to Friday’s Oval Office blow out or he is lying. Probably the latter. There has been no telephone call between the two presidents since Friday’s incident. Trump only stated he had received a letter from Zelenskyi yesterday saying that he was ready to sign the minerals deal so that the peace process could move forward unimpeded. I think TG posted its flattering and remorseful contents in another thread yesterday.
Zelenskyi indicated Sunday in a press conference that he would delegate one of his cabinet ministers to on behalf of Ukraine.

lots of lies
Trump said, “We inherited from the last administration an economic catastrophe.” This wasn’t true.
Trump said, “We’re going to have growth in the auto industry like nobody’s ever seen. Plants are opening up all over the place.” That wasn’t true.
Trump said, towns like Aurora, Colorado, and Springfield, Ohio, were “destroyed” by immigrants. That wasn’t true.
Trump said, in reference to Europe and aid to Ukraine, “[W]e’ve spent perhaps $350 billion, and they’ve spent $100 billion.” That wasn’t true.
Trump said, “For the first time in modern history, more Americans believe that our country is headed in the right direction than the wrong direction.” That wasn’t true.
Trump said, in reference to Biden-era inflation, rates were the worst “perhaps even in the history of our country, they’re not sure.” They are sure and that wasn’t true.
Trump said the Biden administration imposed an “electric vehicle mandate.” That wasn’t true.
Trump said, “I’ve stopped all government censorship.” That wasn’t true.
Trump said, “Believe it or not, government databases list 4.7 million Social Security members from people aged 100 to 109 years old. It lists 3.6 million people from ages 110 to 119.” Don’t believe it, because that wasn’t true.
Trump said the Biden administration “closed more than 100 power plants.” That wasn’t true.
Trump said, “The presidential election of Nov. 5 was a mandate like has not been seen in many decades.” That wasn’t true.
Trump said that his first term economic agenda produced “the most successful economy in the history of our country.” That wasn’t true.

The possible contraction for the first quarter is not a result of everything since Jan 21st. You know that. And yes, there is an economic disaster. Interest rates are through the roof but inflation is too high. Private debt is at record levels and wage growth is stagnant. In the stock market front, the PE ratios are scarily out of whack and a correction is definitely coming. Real estate is also completely messed up, which is driving up rents. I’d say it’s looking pretty catastrophic, and the administration did inherit it from the prior administration, along with the last year of the administration before that…
Trump said, “We’re going to have growth in the auto industry like nobody’s ever seen. Plants are opening up all over the place.” That wasn’t true.
Honda just announced expansions in Indiana and there have been multiple parts fabricators that have started new shops.
Trump said, towns like Aurora, Colorado, and Springfield, Ohio, were “destroyed” by immigrants. That wasn’t true.
Ask the people Aurora, Springfield, and Charleroi their opinions…
Trump said, in reference to Europe and aid to Ukraine, “[W]e’ve spent perhaps $350 billion, and they’ve spent $100 billion.” That wasn’t true.
Yep, that was a lie.
Trump said, “For the first time in modern history, more Americans believe that our country is headed in the right direction than the wrong direction.” That wasn’t true.
That’s subjective, but the polls show a definite switch from the last administration.
Trump said, in reference to Biden-era inflation, rates were the worst “perhaps even in the history of our country, they’re not sure.” They are sure and that wasn’t true.
Yeah, that was a whopper.
Trump said the Biden administration imposed an “electric vehicle mandate.” That wasn’t true.
Yes, it was, in effect an EV mandate.
Trump said, “I’ve stopped all government censorship.” That wasn’t true.
Meet the new boss, same as the old? Though there are more people objecting from the right to Trump’s suppression than there was from the left over the past 16 years.
Trump said, “Believe it or not, government databases list 4.7 million Social Security members from people aged 100 to 109 years old. It lists 3.6 million people from ages 110 to 119.” Don’t believe it, because that wasn’t true.
It is true, but was a technical glitch.
Trump said the Biden administration “closed more than 100 power plants.” That wasn’t true.
I couldn’t say.
Trump said, “The presidential election of Nov. 5 was a mandate like has not been seen in many decades.” That wasn’t true.
Subjective.
Trump said that his first term economic agenda produced “the most successful economy in the history of our country.” That wasn’t true.
Subjective.
