The reaction to this is absolutely hilarious. Here’s the secret sauce - Trump throws out a very bold and unconventional idea. People freak out. Trump doubles down, people freak out even more. Concessions get made. Maybe Trump gets what he wants, maybe he doesn’t, but he gets more than he had. Repeat ad nauseum…
But aside from that, what ARE they going to do in Gaza? Send 2 million people back into that hellhole that’s falling apart, with buildings ready to collapse? California isn’t letting their own residents back into neighborhoods that were burned down, why would we think sending Palestinians back to their shelled cities is any better? And what do we think is going to happen? The Arab nations have shown no willingness to rebuild Gaza or help the Palestinians. They also have proven over and over that there is 0 interest on their part for a true 2 state solution, so let’s stop that foolishness right now. You can’t seriously expect Israel to go in and rebuild the infrastructure AGAIN. All polls show the Palestinians still love Hamas. It’s insanity to keep expecting things to change when we keep doing the same things. The only real solution that I can see is for a third party to step in and administer Gaza, and that sure as hell ain’t going to be the UN. Especially after their groups PARTICIPATED in the frigging attacks?
A US administered Gaza might be about the only possible new solution, and it will be a bitch of a job.
Don't you get the the teensiest feeling that he's all over the place? Greenland, Canada, Mexico, China, Gaza, Inflation, Tarrifs.... and so on.
There's no strategy. It's just one "bright idea" being thrown out after another. It feels like those fucking annoying leadership courses where you have to sit in a room with a bunch of marketing weasels and build a bridge out of straws and rubber bands. Anybody with an ounce of common sense leaves the gob-shite in sales to get on with it and make an arse of himself whilst ensuring they're at the front of the line for the lunch buffet.
Shock and Awe, baby!
All I know is that you shouldn't be the gobshite guy standing at the front boasting about "his team"'s achievements when the ridiculous jerry-built bridge comes crashing down.
Even more importantly, don't be the hopeless brown-nosing subordinate standing behind him saying "You're doing great Marty!" who has to clean up all the crap at the end of the meeting.

I think you’re wrong. There is a strategy, and I think the strategy is working. Media and the left start screaming about Canadian Tariffs, he hits them with USAID. They start screaming about USAID, he hits them with Gaza. Nobody’s talking about USAID, today… They start screaming about Gaza and he hits them with Dep Ed… I don’t believe for a minute that this is haphazard and off the cuff. This is too fast, too hard, and too out there. This was thought out and scripted months ago.

Exactly! Can’t protest over USAID when he’s taking over Gaza! No, we have to save the Department of Education! No, the FBI! No, RFK JR!

Maybe we do give them the tools to develop real estate or to create jobs, but essentially tell them this is all they're getting and they better make it work.
True. Like most poor countries, the only workable solution is an economic one.
Maybe USAID can help.
Sure, once it’s been gutted and overhauled.

You may well be on to something there, Lufin.
The question of what to do now in Gaza remains. The problem is Hamas also remains. I agree that the solution is for the Gazans to have more to lose than to gain with Hamas. The real question is can we get them to love their children more than they hate Israel. A brighter future, which is admittedly hazy right now, could help.

I don’t think that happens without a US administered Palestine, with the support of the Saudis and possibly the UE. Even then it will be a dangerous bitch of a job with all of the security issues.

It's such an obvious non-starter. Trump implied that the Gazans would just board ships and planes and go somewhere willingly, and that destination would take them willingly, while the rebuilding of Gaza proceeded peacefully. No part of that plan is attached to any practical reality. I get the firehose of nonsense shock and awe stuff, and I hope that's it, but anybody who thinks this could conceivably happen as Trump describes, is charitably not very well thought out. IMO.

You can just stop right there. (I'm agreeing with you btw) The whole reason they are there is because they love that very specific patch of dirt. Dirt anywhere else doesn't matter.

Fair point, there is a strategy, it's deflection and deliberately generated chaos. How effective it proves in the medium term remains to be seen.

I wholeheartedly agree with you.
All at the expense of his stated policy goal of building upon the success of the Abraham Accords. His own ME foreign policy initiative! I honestly cannot imagine that anyone who has any expertise in foreign policy would have promoted this idea because it is so untenable.

In all the flutter of Rivieras and American ownerships whatTrump really accomplished was to float the notion of a Gaza without Palestinians into the conversation. What happens to Gaza itself is incidental. Getting the Palestinians out of Israel and to into Arabia or Egypt or some other Moslem country transfers the problem of what to do with those psychopaths to the people who are responsible for most of these issues in the first place.

This. I think it is true what @Renauda quoted Amb. Bolton that
"He does not have a philosophy. He does not do grand strategy on national security. He doesn't do policy as we normally understand that term ... There's no master plan. That's beyond Trump's capability".

The "flavor of the day" seems to be bashing USAID.
How many people here know what they do and how they operate?
(BTW, their budget is about USD$40BB a year. US Budget for the year is USD%6.1 trillion.)
For contrast, the secret service has a budget of about USD$3B/year, with
$1.2 billion in funding for Protective Operations — the division that oversees protection for the president, vice president and their families.

I worked at AID for about a year in 1980.
They have always worked closely with the CIA. The relationship is inevitable, planned or not.

I do not think any one would question the accuracy of that, other than those guilty of undertaking and perpetrating the mass psychosis governing the Palestinian Arabs.
Forced relocation of whole populations however smacks of a past era the Western world finds repugnant. You know of this very well from your own family’s experiences. In fact, no one whose family lived in Central and Eastern Europe 80 years ago would not know.
Personally I too would like to see the Arab nations step up to the plate and take in these people. But it won’t happen and those who call themselves Palestinians will not have it. Any American led initiative to lead them out of their present ghetto of rubble and into prepared ersatz gated American designed suburbs in someone else’s desert oasis with no right of return to the ruins they claim as their own is, as Horace points out, a non starter.
A zero sum game.

Bolton would not be my go-to on things Trump.

Bolton would not be my go-to on things Trump.
On the contrary, John Bolton along with James Mattis, John Kelly, H. R. McMaster and even, Rex Tillerson ought to be the first order of go-to‘s on things Trump. Especially with regard to security, defence and foreign policy.
TG knows that and so do you.

According to a report from Defence Security Asia, Israel proposed that a significant portion of Egypt's $100B foreign debt through the World Bank be forgiven if Egypt allowed the entry of Palestinian residents from the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing.
However, the Egyptian government has consistently rejected such proposals, expressing concerns over national security and the potential for forced displacement of Palestinians. Egyptian officials have emphasized their refusal to allow the forced expulsion of Palestinian residents from their homeland, citing the potential impact on regional stability.
That proposal floated back when things were just getting messy post October 7. I don't think Egypt's enthusiasm has waned in the months since.
