You know, I don't really care in that it doesn't affect anything in my life, but at a broad level holy shit this should be so alarming to everyone in the country. Not the first time I've thought that phrase, especially since January 2025.

I think I can safely say that I would be content with the own-goal by the administration I hated, and with the 100% expectation of SCOTUS overturning their attempt (if it got to that). But yes I would note that "this is why I hate them".

Spare me your alarm. Where was it during Murthy Vs Missouri? Or when they tried to implement the Disinformation Governance Board? How about the multiple attempts to reinstate The Fairness Doctrine? Remember when Babylon Bee sued and won after CA adopted legislation that would have labeled satire as misinformation?
As mentioned above, Trump and Co. fucked up pretty big time. I’m happy to see them get their hands smacked hard on this. But the liberal pearl clutching is disingenuous and nauseating.

I'm torn on the Fairness Doctrine. Certainly I can see how it conflicts with free speech, but holy shit how news/media got SO MUCH WORSE since it was removed and we saw a substantial increase in political hackery, for-profit bias and misinformation, and a substantial decrease in trust and civics fluency.

Shapiro pretty well summed up my opinion…

But, I would go farther than that. This was a massive mistake on Trumps part because it also reverses the moral standings. Americans in general cannot have two things be true in their own heads. They can’t comprehend that Kimmel trying to misinform the public on the motives and philosophy of the shooter is morally and ethically reprehensible while also acknowledging that the administration trying to shut him up is also morally and ethically reprehensible. They can’t see both being true at the same time, so instead they take idiotic stances on either side.
Personally? I at least trust the courts and the rule of law to correct the damage done by Trump on this one. The damage done by Kimmel is already out there.

The pandering to the outrage mob is strong with this one…

The playing field the fairness doctrine was meant to referee, is all but abandoned and irrelevant anyway.
