"The iPad doesn't work."
-
I sold an (old) iPad Air 2 on FB marketplace. Got $110 for it.
I just got a message:
the iPad doesn't work
I already tried to use an application and it doesn't work, I wanted it for my daughter, it was her Christmas gift 🥹 we are short of money that's why I chose to buy one on Facebook.
it works with no fire
It's an older unit - 2014. Works fine with the installed apps, and WiFi is fine as well.
I think buyer is upset that it's reached the end of its life as to updates.
WWYD?

I'd reply thusly:
Caveat emptor, bitches.
Seriously though I'd just tell 'em, use the existing apps and it'll work okay. (My iPad's basically getting there, too.)

Bump for any other thoughts?
It's a bit tough if she got it for a young daughter. I'm a push-over for a sob-story, so possibly not the best person to give advice, but I'd be tempted to let her bring it back.

Same. Or as a middle ground, you could work with her on how to use it without it failing. If she brings it back, she won't find an iPad for $110 for her daughter. She sounds sincere and, if so, it would be some (moar) good you could add to the world.
That being said, if she tells you her daughter is under the age of 10, then tell her kids shouldn't have electronics until they are 30 and mumble bah humbug as you leave.

Klaus is right, of course, but still I’d be thinking about the little girl, take it back, and resell it myself with an explicit paragraph making clear what to expect from an old iPad.
Meanwhile mom still has 2 weeks and $110 dollars to shop for her.
I mean, this isn’t a scammer you’re dealing with. She’s just not knowledgeable about technology.
-
You are perfectly in the right to not take the return.
I’d still take it back. It would be salvaging this woman and her daughter’s Christmas at the cost of a little inconvenience to refund her and resell it again.
-
I would also let her know that Best Buy, Costco and such do have iPad 9s for $249 right now. It’s the model that’s going out, but will still be able to run the latest apps for several years.
-
And you are a good person.
-
As was said to me in a vaguely similar situation - in a week, you won't notice the $100, but she will. There's definitely something to be said for knowing you helped somebody out.

It’s Christmas. Use the $110, kick in $140 and buy her kid a new iPad. Take the old one back and sell it again. Winning.

LOL, I was thinking about doing EXACTLY that when I was making coffee.
And then....
