@Mik said in Trump suggests election delay to counter voter fraud:

What we need is for both sides to quit playing power politics and start serving the people of this country.

That sounds good in theory, but what if the people have very diverging conceptions of how they want to be governed?

Biden is a centrist. The only question is his effectiveness and ability to lead.

Even Obama who tried to push through some progressive ideas early on received the feedback of losing the House, The Senate and Governorships in that order. At the end of the day Obama looked pretty similar to Bill Clinton and the Republic did well enough.

I have zero doubt that the left are fully convinced that they serve the people of the country.

One of the more insidious aspects of our learned righteousness is that compassion is for the least advantaged materially, and the bulk of the bell curve can go F itself. Entire societies can apparently be led by attaching the leash to the tail of the bell curve and shaming everybody for not devoting all their attention to it, hang the expense.

Taking your bell curve one step forward, it’s the fight on both sides for the middle. Who is going to win their hearts and minds because that where the bulk of the votes are.

Well I’ll throw some cold water on trumps stupidity.

In the impossible situation where federal law is changed and the election is delayed. The constitution rules that the presidents term ends January 20. If there is no president elect, than (sit down larry) pelosi becomes president.

In cases where there is no president-elect or vice president-elect, the amendment also gives the Congress the authority to declare an acting president until such time as there is a president or vice president. At this point the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 would apply, with the office of the Presidency going to the speaker of the House of Representatives, followed by the president pro tempore of the Senate and various Cabinet officers.

And if you want to see the original wording of the act

            80TH UNITED STATES CONGRESS
            1ST SESSION
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That

            (a)

            (1) if, by reason of death, resignation, removal from office, inability, or failure to qualify, there is neither a President nor Vice President to discharge the powers and duties of the office of President, then the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall, upon his resignation as Speaker and as Representative in Congress, act as President.

Eons ago I redd a novel by Fletcher Knebel called (I think) Dark Horse. The premise: through some bizarre circumstance all those in the line of succession are killed, and the job goes (somehow, I don't remember how) to the New Jersey Commissioner of Highways. The rest of the book is about how this guy copes. It was pretty good actually.

I'd like to read it again, but I think it's out of print.

Biden isn't a socialist. I think we'll have to wait for 2024 to see that. Hopefully by then the GOP will have regained sanity.

Back in early February with Bernie leading, that was the best case scenario. Trump was going to win easily (until COVID hit), and Bernie would've helped the GOP as Bernie's name would've helped mute the left side of the ballot. Of course, all of that changed.

Trumps internal polling is almost certainly abysmal, hence this tweet.

                                  Nah, I think it's a pre-emptive strike.

There are problems with mail-in ballots and we all know it. They are extremely easy to manipulate and ballot harvest. They also lend themselves to an October Surprise, if it's done well, especially with a Biden-friendly media.

As for poll numbers...I think Trump is down about five, but it's not even Labor Day. And the more Biden has to campaign, the more his senility is expressed.

Along these lines, how would mail-in ballots even work?

For example, when we traditionally vote at a polling station, at least for me, I'd show ID, they would find my name on the registered voter list, and I would vote. Then the ballots all go somewhere and I hope/trust they are counted accurately.

Whereas for mail-in ballots, would ballots be sent out to only registered voters? How would the folks counting the ballots even know the ballot they received was filled out by the person who's name is on the ballot? Heck, how would the folks counting the ballots know if someone made 1,000 copies of their ballot and sent them all in?

Here they send an official interior envelope with your voter info on it with the ballot.

So you fill out the ballot, put it in the marked envelope, sign it and seal it, then put that in the mailing envelope.

And you sign the ballot too. Someone matches the signature with the one on file from your registration. It’s not that different than voting in person.

                                    Only non-witches get due process.

I'd be willing to bet with other people's money that if Trump loses he will complain about voter fraud, and will not bow out gracefully, but will whine like a spoilt little baby.

                                        I was only joking

I'd be willing to be my own money on that.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.
