The 64-year-old, who was a retired California police chief, was riding his bicycle along Tenaya Way and Centennial Parkway on August 14 when he was killed in a hit-and-run.

Again, I could be persuaded to reverse my opposition to capital punishment in certain cases.

              From the RWEC...

Comment on Twitter has focused heavily on the racial component of the murder. It is true, as many have said, that if the races were reversed this would be iconic, world-famous proof of structural racism. Joe Biden likely would give a speech about it.

Obviously, one shouldn’t go too far in this direction. It would be folly to draw broad conclusions from a single incident (although that happened, for example, in the case of George Floyd). This is an extreme case, and the young men who committed this crime should, in my opinion, be executed.

But while extreme, it is also one instance of a very widespread problem. We can say, empirically, that there is a terrible sickness in the black community. In my state, blacks commit serious crimes at ten times the per capita rate of whites. That is according to official government statistics. I doubt that the numbers would be much different in other states.

The United States is in the midst of a crime wave, and the crimes are being committed disproportionately by blacks. It is time to stop bloviating about racism and start holding criminals–of all races–accountable.

                I agree.

And I have another proposal...Instead of sending some of the lower-level lawbreakers to juvie, send them to a regional Army boot camp. The boot camp would be modeled after the National Guard Challenge programs, but of longer duration and with more security.

Inmates (or whatever you wish to call them) would do serious classwork for a GED. They will enjoy the parameters of a rigid military life. They will receive counseling. They will receive classes on life skills, including financial, home economics, basic manners and an introduction to various trades.

That kind of behavior worked out well for the Manson girls.

narratives attached to out of context snapshots of facial expressions are generally garbage. I’m more than willing to give the lawyer the benefit of doubt.

I was one of three defendants during a malpractice trial in 1996. Our attorney said, at the beginning of the trial, that although it's scary AF in the beginning, after a few days, you'll start to see and appreciate the "game" of it all. He was right.

                                      But...

There was never, ever, that kind of behavior, either by plaintiff's attorney or ours.

Yeah, a picture can be taken out of context. But, they're both laughing, and I'd like to know what was so funny.

By the way, yesterday, I read that this was not the first hit and run that these two miscreants did that day. The other victim sustained minor injuries.

Lock them up. In a small cage. Forever. This is pure evil and needs to be removed from society. Forever.

Yup - the world has plenty of people - a few fewer sociopaths on the outside isn't a bad thing. Back when the Soviet Union dissolved, columnist Mike Royko recommended saving money by shipping people like that to Soviet gullags as it would be cheaper to house them there - and if they escaped, they only had to walk through a few hundred miles of waist deep snow to freedom - which seemed unlikely.
