if we find out that she had an associate aware of her plans
Apparently she texted (messaged?) a friend saying "I'm going to die today."

Nashville school shooter Audrey Hale sent a friend a chilling “suicide note” minutes before slaughtering three children and three adults — writing her: “I’m planning to die today.”
Hale, 28, messaged Averianna Patton, her former middle school basketball teammate, on Instagram at 9:57 a.m. Monday, NewsChannel 5 reported.
“So basically that post I made on here about you, that was basically a suicide note. I’m planning to die today,” Hale wrote, using the name Aiden, according to messages Patton gave the outlet.
“THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!!” wrote Hale, who identified as transgender. “You’ll probably hear about me on the news after I die.”
Hale added: “This is my last goodbye. I love you … See you again in another life.” She signed the missive “Audrey (Aiden).”
Patton replied: “Audrey! You have so much more life to live. I pray God keeps and covers you.”
In response, Hale wrote: “I know but I don’t want to live. I’m so sorry. I’m not trying to upset you or get attention. I just need to die. I wanted to tell you first because you are the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen and known all my life.”
She added: “My family doesn’t know what I’m about to do. One day this will make more sense. I’ve left more than enough evidence behind. But something bad is about to happen.”
Then kill yourself, darling. Why kill innocent children?
I'm telling y'all, the devil strides across this earth in cloven hooves...

Yes the police response definitely had an anti-Uvalde tempo to it. Good for them. Especially thinking that they are sweeping the building without knowing about the shooter the way we did. They are hunting room by room, could be an ambush, around any corner, any suspect, how brave you must be…but the lives of children certainly enhances the urgency to a whole different level.
As I told my wife today, these shootings will always continue. They seek headlines, and they get them. The name, the picture, the manifesto, it all sucks up the media oxygen, of which I’m guilty too. Further, parents worried about this happening to their child? Certainly understandable emotionally but statistically their child is 110x more likely to die while commuting to school than in the school. 110 times more likely. School shootings are ridiculously rare, relative to the cause of student deaths.

"In 2021, [Tennessee] enacted a law that lets most Tennesseans 21 and older carry handguns without first clearing a background check, obtaining a permit, or getting trained on firearms safety. ..."
No background check, how is the seller to know whether a buyer is a risk to public safety? How can "red flag law" work without background check? How can you tell if there is a red flag if you do not at least check?

That applies to carry, not purchase.

The police has yet to determine the motive and already Sen. Hawley has introduced a bill to condemn the shooting as a “hate crime”.

Classic projection, for people who have already self-mutilated in service of their own suicidality. It's really no wonder they have weak behavioral limits, and they think the world is out to get them. Their own psychological universe really is out to get them.

Other than symbolic import, does this really matter, considering the perp is dead?

I believe there is a score card being kept.

I have never understood the designation of 'hate crime' as a subcategory of crime. By definition, isn't any crime a hostile act against an individual, and therefore hate-ish? What difference does it make if the crime is committed out of irritation?
Seems like designating an act as a hate crime itself contributes to spreading the hate.

Talked with a guy I know in the gun biz, who shoots some competition. I was impressed with the Engelbert handled his weapon. He agreed, but he knew more than I did. He talked about the Vortex 1-6 on the officer's AR not being department issue, but how well he handled the site and how the officer worked the blind corners and rooms.
He said that speaks to two things...
- Engelbert took the money and time to buy a good site ( the Vortex is not department issue)and get really good with it, along with superior gun handling. Especially under high stress.
- Even though he shoots an AR in competition, he said there's no way he could have kept up with the officer, as fast as he was scanning and clearing rooms.
