If he doesn't make it, they should replace the super bowl halftime show with his funeral. Just to keep everything in perspective.

The reaction is so arbitrary. I am very sure everybody involved in dealing with the fallout, is looking sideways at everybody else, putting their finger to the wind, trying to gauge at what point we move on in a unemotional manner and enjoy football, without the downer scaffolding of pretending to care about this man's life way more than anybody but his friends and family actually do. A strong emotional reaction to watching a man almost die on the field, in the moment, is not actual caring, and it does not last. How many hundreds of Jim Kellys are out there with pathetic qualities of life, as inside their skulls is the brain of a demented 100 year old? Not to mention the physical deterioration. All because of this game. But that's out of sight, and out of mind. This one incident is bringing an entire season to its knees, because everybody's reaction is on trial.

And they could award points for death on the field.

A death is worth at least 6 points. A Cincinnati win 7-3, would become a 9-7 Buffalo win.

It could become a new tactic when things get desperate at the end of a game.

The Bengals-Ravens game for Sunday will be played at 1 PM ET," said Field Yates.

Season looks like the game will not be played.

Read my earlier post. They are going to play the week 18 games, cross their fingers, and hope the results mean the Cin/Buf game is rendered mostly irrelevant.

@LuFins-Dad I’m sure that would be my response if I were in charge. If there’s a chance the problem is going to go away in 4 days, wait it out.

UC Medical personnel last night described Hamlin as 'neurologically intact'. Someone I know translated that to 'cognitively intact'. Not sure those two are the same thing.

It has also been reported -- I don't know by who, possibly a teammate -- that he opened his eyes last night. Also that he is obeying commands.

Somebody clarified that "neurologically intact" means he's making movements under his own brainpower.

Our top restaurateur, Jeff Ruby, is catering diner for Hamlin's family every night. And it ain't PB&Js.

He was conscious last night, able to follow commands and asked who won the game. Good sign.

They are talking now about eliminating the bye week for the first seed and adding an 8th playoff team in each Conference. Seeding would be based on winning percentage.

Leave it to the NFL to figure out a way to make MORE money out of this…

Don't forget. According to the NFL, they're only concerned with the health of Hamlin.

How will they work him into the Super Bowl halftime show?

Simple thoughts and prayers, or a live feed from the ICU, maybe a drive-by in an ambulance

@jon-nyc several criteria have to be met.

                                    Among them:

                                    • ability to maintain a reasonable SpO2 on a low FiO2 (probably about 0.4)
                                    • ability to maintain spontaneous respiration with endotracheal tube in place for a predetermined length of time - in my day, it was 24 hours - with no ventilatory support
                                    • ability to protect one's airway. Given that he's conscious, I doubt that this is an issue
                                    • assurance that his lungs have recovered from whatever insult they may have sustained (related to #1)
                                    • stable, or improving chest x-ray
                                    • assure adequate strength to maintain #2 and #3 (probably not an issue since his illness has been so acute and short-lived)

#1 and #2 are the most important.

@jon-nyc those were, more or less, the criteria back in the dark ages when I was a fellow on the ICU service (respiratory). I imagine the criteria haven't changed all that much.
