If this is honestly the worst thing to happen to you at work, you're lucky indeed.
There's a reason they call it work rather than fun, and pay you to come in rather than charge admission.
My boss has an enormous picture of the Kool-Aid guy on his shelf to remind him of unspecified things which I won't go into.

It's not the worst thing, not by far. It's just the latest thing that has to do with things we've spoken about here.

@Aqua-Letifer That was awesome, but not surprising. "So in the words of my POC bretheren, I am no longer keeping it real."
-
Aqua, you're going to be running that company 6 months from now.
-
Actually I think we're getting absorbed by another one. We'll see what happens.

So, I think you will be able to run both of them!!!

Ok. I think we need to start a TNCR Book Club with a meeting every Tuesday. White Fragility will be the first book. Aqua, would you mind leading the first book since you are already reading it?
What chapters should we have read for the first meeting?

Believe it or not but I've managed a team before, and it was awesome. The situation was a bit crap because not only was I directly responsible for my team's output, I also had no managerial authority. But my co-workers knew their stuff so all I did was help them do their work when they got swamped. They got help when they needed it, I got to not get bored by doing different stuff every day, and the work got done. My manager said it was the best team he ever had. I agree although that had very little to do with me.
I'd be an absolutely crap manager under normal circumstances. I care about producing interesting work, not being responsible for others. Because I don't care about managing nincompoops or bad personalities, I have absolutely no experience with doing that, so I'd be ineffective. Also if my team had legitimate gripes, I'd probably side with them and put myself in jeopardy by caring more about fixing their concerns than productivity.
Nope, not for me.

Great comeback, Aqua. They were probably frustrated that they couldn't jump on you like good SJW's.
Next time, try a tear or two. Just for effect. Especially when you mention HR and central administrators. In our school district, all employees, teachers to janitors, had to take Diversity Training i.e., two days on white privelege. Administrators were to take a three-day all-day white privelege indoctrination.
And, all employees, especially teachers, were to bring this into the classroom, thereby "educating" over 17,000 students.
It was very weird, seeing all these people confess their sins. But in private, several told me in hushed tones, they found most of it to be absolute BS, but you had to pretend you were a full member.

It's all performance and theater at this point. For the most part I say in meetings what I need to say to protect myself in case things have to get legal, not what I think. It's very tiring and unhealthy.

Having not heretofore bothered to check out this White Fragility opus, I just looked at its Amazon page. I couldn't finish reading the blurb. I quit right after "the phenomenon of white fragility and āallows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to ābad peopleā.
I'm thinking I have been somewhat clueless about the true bill around here. This book is NUMBER ONE in the Amazon charts. Has 1,777 ratings with 4.5 stars.
Holy toledo.

Aqua you must be one good actor. I don't know how you said all that without breaking.
It's not that. A lot of this officially started when my old boss accused me of bullying and intimidating her in the office. Yeah, my boss. My superior. She went to HR about it. They took it very seriously. What it was, I found out our department had no professional development budget because this woman had spent it all on herself. She also changed our performance evaluations of her to make herself sound better. Real wild stuff. And I confronted her about this. That was me intimidating and bullying her. She felt unsafe in the office, she said.
She "resigned" six months later but that doesn't mean I didn't have to go through the HR charade. Oh! Well I want to thank you all for bringing this to my attention, and for taking the time to discuss it so that we can iron out any misunderstandings, I really appreciate blah fucking blah.
All my meetings are theatre now. They're gross. My boss and I are trying to coordinate our quitting and we're sending each other job leads. It's messed up shit.

Good read.
Iām not sure itās possible to overstate how the leftās fetishization of race has poisoned our culture and created permanent divides. Itās among the most disappointing things Iāve witnessed over my lifetime, to see normal and decent folk get so unequivocally behind that bankrupt messaging.

Agree, nicely put, Horace.
Hope you're wrong about "permanent divides."
How much longer, and how much worse, can it get(?). -
Agreed, @Horace (and @Rainman).
Maybe I'm naive or optimistic, but over the last month or two I've taken time to notice interactions I've had with folks of all backgrounds, white, black, asian, latino, etc. All of them have been normal, civilized, and positive. All.
Whether it was at the grocery store, or on the running path, in the lobby of my condo, or even one point where I had an extra sandwich from Dunkin Donuts while driving and happened to stop where a (black) panhandler was asking for money. I gave him the sandwich, he was really happy (and we exchanged some nice words) and moved on.
Nearly every interaction I have with others is great...which makes me think (and still believe) the unrest you see amplified (I repeat, AMPLIFIED) by the media (and social media) is just the loudest voice out there but not reflective of the vast majority of society. Generally speaking, if you're out in public and you need help changing a tire, jumping a battery, or moving a heavy box, and you ask someone for help, they'll help. Regardless of color.
And this gives me the hope that the divides you see in the media aren't permanent and are NOT common.
And while I don't live in the ghetto of DC, I do live in an area where being white is a minority. Check out the map below:

Driving Conservatives Underground
By Fletch Daniels
Cultural tyranny reigns in America, the last step before full-fledged political tyranny.
Lurking beneath the surface of virtue signaling leftists are tyrants seeking to exert their will over those they despise. The defining leftist culture enables them to ruthlessly use all the power at their disposal, both real and imagined, to enforce a single acceptable viewpoint on society.
In some geographic areas, this is more obvious than in others, but no area will ultimately be spared. This week, my wife volunteered during the Virginia Republican primary. As people came by the booth to get information on the candidates, she offered these Republican voters an opportunity to sign up for yard signs. Most whispered that they could never put something like that up in their neighborhood. Thatās understandable. Unless a family is willing to stand guard 24/7 over their property, a Trump bumper sticker or sign here is a risky proposition at best.
And so the Northern Virginia neighborhoods surrounding us are dotted with almost exclusively Democrat yard signs and the ubiquitous and unintentionally ironic āHate has No Home Hereā signs that literally blare that their home is a sanctuary of vile hatred and small-minded contempt.
When people canāt put a bumper sticker for their preferred candidate on their car, they have suffered a loss of liberty. No Republicans who have paid even a little bit of attention expect the prevailing powers in Democrat areas to safeguard their property, or even their lives and liberty. The very reason for establishing a government has been upended. In this area, liberty-minded people almost operate like a secret society sending quiet signals to one another.
Democrats in this country do not feel they need to hide their political allegiance or culturally approved viewpoints. Most never shut up about it, believing they are speaking truth to power, even as they bask in the approval of the corrupt and wicked power centers.
