The good professor, of 39 years, may be burned out. An old man being sarcastic with kids born with a social media device in their hands demonstrates suicidal tendencies or lack of situational awareness.

suicidal is probably stretching it. At some point some civilian courage is not suicidal, it's just the duty of a human being capable of seeing through at least the top layer of our insane group-think.
