I suspect most pharmacists could jot down a homemade formula recipe pretty easy.

Of course, the FDA would tell you that it would be unsafe and it's better if the child starves...

      "Do not take."

This is, of course, a negligible amount, in the big scheme of things.

One of the causes cited is US trade policy, including a provision signed into the USMCA (Trump's revision to NAFTA) that discourages importation of baby formula from Canada.

      Other causes, perhaps more important:

FDA regulation of formula is so stringent that most of the stuff that comes out of Europe is illegal to buy here due to technicalities like labeling requirements. Nevertheless, one study found that many European formulas meet the FDA nutritional guidelines—and, in some ways, might even be better than American formula, because the European Union bans certain sugars, such as corn syrup, and requires formulas to have a higher share of lactose.

Yeah, I'd guess that FDA regulations are a bigger factor (and they're mentioned first in the article) than the re-negotiated NAFTA agreement.

@George-K , based on what information sources do you claim that (1) USMCA has negligible effect on the shortage and (2) that FDA regulations are the much bugger culprit?

You may well be correct on or both counts, but it would be nice to know how you come to those two claims.

          Yep, they've got a plan.

Hope it works better than most of their other plans...

              1. The picture that the congresswoman posted is probably a small amount in the overall shortage. Diverting one warehouse's supply to the southern border doesn't create a shortage. Similarly, releasing it to the general population won't cure it. Negligible.

              2. Your article mentions the re-negotiated NAFTA second, as opposed to the strict FDA regulations. I can only assume that NAFTS is a secondary cause. I didn't say that the effect USMCA was negligible. I was referring to the congresswoman's tweet.

But, please let us know if you find something different. Thank you.

Although the shortages could last months after all supply issues are resolved if people start hoarding. Which they will.

So some poor woman will be forced to give birth to a baby she doesn't want, but then won't have any formula to feed it.

She won't know who to blame for her predicament!

Well, the Dems were on it today, like white on rice. On a paper plate. In a snowstorm.

Pelosi. Psaki. Anybody who could grab a microphone. In one week a political party went from trying to kill children before they're born to decrying whether babies could get the right formula.

Ok stupid question. What did babies do for the 10,000 last years before formula was available? And yes, spare me the "half would die before 2" statistic.

                          Moms didn't work and nursed.

Yeah many (including my wife) worked and pumped at work... hence the 1,800 ounces we still have. This supply issue, don't get me wrong, is a major issue for those who legitimately rely on it. For others, including some of my wife's friends with babies, it's more of an annoyance as they have said "Well I guess I have to keep pumping/feeding instead of converting to formula after 6 months".

There is no baby formula shortage..... well, at least not if you're an illegal coming across Biden's open Southern border.. you'll get a free supply of baby formula.

That's right - while our own citizens have to live in fear of not being able to feed their children, the fucking fool Biden is handing it out free to anyone who wants it as they violate our laws.
