I fail to see how what she said, which, taken on its face is accurate, rises to the level of "treason."

Agreed. Even if she said exactly what Putin says, the US is not involved directly with this war, so technically it wouldn't be anti-US or treason or whatever. Not even close.

What she said was pretty much what President Biden's Undersecretary to the State Department testified to Congress. These labs do contain pathogens and do need to be secured and have the pathogens destroyed. Full stop.

Has nothing to do with giving credence to Putin or some fringe conspiracy group.

And in point of fact, the more dipshits run around yelling "She's giving credence to Russian Misinformation and it's treason" the more I start to wonder if there's more to this.

So, the current administration is working with Russia to broker an Iran capitulation deal. Does that rise to the level of treason, Senator?

Still, if the pathogens have not been destroyed and can be released, you've still got WMDs. Do we really need to be reminded of that?

I can't see Gabbards' statements as treason either.

The best propaganda takes stuff that is true, and uses it to imply stuff that is false.

And then you get a bunch of people talking about the stuff that's true, and it sounds like they're going along with the stuff that's false.

What Tucker's doing is dumb at best.

Just dumb? Playing right into the Kremlin’s playbook. Carlson’s a stooge.

Gabbard should just know better than to get sucked into Carlson’s agenda.

Can't speak to Tucker Carlson as I have a sneezing fit from all the hairspray every time I see him. I'm just saying that there is nothing inappropriate with Gabbard's statements. Those facilities do need to be secured and the pathogens destroyed, especially if Putin's doing some kind of weird wink and a nod with it.

"Conspiracy theorist" accusations are boilerplate lefty handbook stuff. We've all been acculturated to giggle at conspiracy theorists, long before our current left vs right divisions became so polarizing. the left has just used the opportunity to mine the giggles from that pre-conceived notion of how ridiculous conspiracy theorists are. Have to hand it to the left, they were ahead of the game recognizing the power of the tribal giggle.

In the context of this conversation, Romney was using the "conspiracy theorist" meme for its political effect, to marginalize a political opponent. It's part of the lefty playbook, but that does not mean its use is relegated to registered Democrats. I'm always eager to point out the conspiracy theorists on the left, for instance. Most obviously the race narrative, which is the largest and most powerful conspiracy theory on the planet. And I am not a registered Democrat.
