Neil can start his own streaming service.
Looks like he's going to have to:
Spotify: "See ya later, Neil!"
Spotify Technology SA is removing Neil Youngâs music, as the folk-rock star isnât wavering in his objections to Joe Roganâs podcast.
The âHeart of Goldâ and âHarvest Moonâ singer earlier this week penned an open letter to his manager and label asking them to remove his music from the service, saying it is spreading fake information about Covid-19 vaccines through Mr. Roganâs show. âThey can have Rogan or Young. Not both,â he wrote.
âWe want all the worldâs music and audio content to be available to Spotify users. With that comes great responsibility in balancing both safety for listeners and freedom for creators,â a Spotify spokesman said. The company has detailed content policies in place and has removed over 20,000 Covid-related podcast episodes since the start of the pandemic, he added.
âWe regret Neilâs decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon,â he said.
Spotify struck a deal with Mr. Rogan in 2020 worth more than $100 million, according to people familiar with the matter, bringing his popular and lucrative show exclusively to its service.
While the letter has since been removed from Mr. Youngâs website, he has been in discussions with his label, Warner Music WMG -0.20% Group Corp.âs Warner Records, and Spotify since then, and continued to hold his ground, according to people familiar with the matter. The formal request to remove the music was made Wednesday and could take several hours to take effect across Spotifyâs service across the world.
Before the removal, Mr. Young had 2.4 million followers and over six million monthly listeners on Spotify.
Hay, Neil. Rather than being a whiny pussy, why don't you man-up and show up on Rogan's show and actually talk about what bothers you?
But...no.

Ann Althouse:
"Well, of course, Spotify should side with Joe Rogan. The person who makes an ultimatum like that should lose. It's ridiculous. If that worked, there'd be an obnoxious celebrity throwing his weight around every day.
So much for 'rocking in the free world,' Neil, you big jerk."

Neil Old, amirite
Yes and he probably feels he has nothing to lose.
I suspect so. But then we all have diminished filters as we get older and I imaginet most of us do not have quite as open-minded (read inexperienced) view of the world as we did when younger.

She clearly hasn't spent even ten minutes looking into Neil Young.

Kind of like thinking Born In The USA is a pro-American song.

Joni has now joined Neil.
Honestly I donât care one way or the other as whatâs not on Spotify I can get on Apple Music.
What I would like to see if now an avalanche of classic stars follow suit and see if they can break Spotifyâs will to fight. Would be an Interesting social media experiment.
