Stole my reply. Nearly every protest I saw in DC was basically a big exercise in catharsis for those involved. Makes people feel better by holding signs and chanting unoriginal phrases.

The downside of this particular protest is they're making it personal. The same thing goes for people yelling outside abortion clinics. They're harrassing individuals who have made a decision they don't approve of, and in many cases are people who are already having a really, really difficult day.

The abortion debate will always come down to the one big question of when does life begin? And that answer informs your choice. If you believe a 10 week old fetus is a living person, how do you not fight for their protection?

They are all entirely convinced they are acting like grown-ups. Grown-ups with the courage and principles to do what is right. To be on the right side of history. It is incumbent on such people to be the ones to make a statement, while other sheeple do nothing. They believe this because it's fun and self-serving to believe it, and the belief is reinforced by the broader culture. There is no shame in doing what they do. Only glory, and fun.

They are all entirely convinced they are acting like grown-ups. Grown-ups with the courage and principles to do what is right. To be on the right side of history. It is incumbent on such people to be the ones to make a statement, while other sheeple do nothing. It’s only a matter of time before abortion disappears anyway. After all, non-menstruating women can’t have one, so it’s not really appropriate for anyone to have one…

Then with Jan 6 and its vindication of all that deranged hatred, I think deranged righteous political hatreds are permanently embedded in the culture now.

This precedes TDS. I would go back to Code Pink and the anti-W protests… Or, as Copper notes, you could go back to Nixon… But Bush is where I noticed a change to the levels of intolerance…

TDS is where I noticed mainstream sufferers openly discussing how to punish Trump supporters, in extra-legal, economic or social ways. It's where I noticed the hatreds becoming a normal part of television shows, movies, and all of pop culture. Not a single one of the people who participated in that stuff look back on it with any regret. Their righteousness, their ability to sniff out the right side of history, is entrenched.

How stupid. But remember while that is going on some people are having the best time of cleaning up based on the distraction.
