Too lazy to look it up. What's the effectiveness after the 2nd dose?

Master of the obvious here pointing out the big story is one dose ergo doubling the vaccination rate until we have excess inventory.

Also what is herd immunity requirement now that people are immune in 2 weeks?

Finally more clues as to big drop in active cases.

This is all potentially blockbuster news.

                Basically:

                1st shot + 7 days: 69%
                1st shot + 14 days: 93%
                2nd shot + 7 days: 95%

Aka...you don't need a 2nd shot from Pfizer, if the data holds.

@george-k I read a study in the UK that stated the 2nd dose of both vaccines should be delayed for up to 90 days after the first dose. When administered on the current schedule, the effective rate actually drops into the High 70s, low 80s. If they delay the 2nd dose, the effective rate climbs to 97+

                    https://www.npr.org/2021/04/23/989954894/biden-administration-looks-for-help-with-next-phase-of-pitching-covid-vaccines

“The Biden administration is moving into a new phase of its campaign to vaccinate as many Americans as possible for the coronavirus, one where the government may not always be the best messenger to persuade people to get their shot.

So it's working to bring together hundreds of local and national groups into something it calls the COVID-19 Community Corps, enlisting people to help their friends, family and neighbors make appointments and get access to vaccines.
                    ...
The country is nearing the point where vaccine supply will outstrip demand. ...
                    “

Sounds reasonable enough. I imagine there are many NGOs that are already involved with promoting and helping people get vaccinated anyway. Hopefully this is engage more NGOs and help those already engaged to become more effective.

US drop in vaccine demand has some places turning down doses

“... Across the country, pharmacists and public health officials are seeing the demand wane and supplies build up. About half of Iowa’s counties have stopped asking for new doses from the state, and Louisiana didn’t seek shipment of some vaccine doses over the past week.

Some are urging federal officials to send more vaccine to places where there’s demand — rather than allocate them based on population — including Massachusetts Republican Gov. Charlie Baker, who said on Thursday they could administer two to three times more doses per day if they had more supply.”

And then there is the insight from an interview with a mother who homeschools her two children, talking about her home schooling community:

“The stronger someone’s trust is in the Lord, the least likely they are to want the vaccine or feel that it’s necessary.”

I don’t mind if an individual believes if they catch Covid it was God’s plan, it’s just that they can cause others to die that doesn’t seem like a good interpretation of God’s plan.

Get the vaccines to the family doctors. Have them start addressing it in one on one conversations with their patients during their physicals.

This is a huge mistake. Pharma companies all took potentially catastrophic financial risks to come up with the vaccines. To take away from them the ability to recoup and perhaps make a profit on them pretty much guarantees they will not answer the phone next crisis.

This is a huge mistake. Pharma companies all took potentially catastrophic financial risks to come up with the vaccines. To take away from them the ability to recoup and perhaps make a profit on them pretty much guarantees they will not answer the phone next crisis.

I heard a lawyer interviewed this morning say that this is pretty much a symbolic step. You can't produce vaccines from a patent, and without the co-operation of the Pharm companies it really isn't possible to reproduce the product.

                                          I was only joking
