Hey @Rich, are you going crazy with your runs? Multiple runs of 10+ miles a day in a tempo I couldn't even hold for 3 miles?

Ha, says the guy who rode 150 miles last week!

Garmin was being held up by some ransomware attack, and I was too lazy to manually upload, so several days worth just went up at once.

But yeah, the general pattern is:
      Monday--10/11 miles at 'whatever'
Tuesday--Track workout. (between warm up/cool down, active recovery and actual "work" ends up being 10-12 miles total)
      Wednesday--Easy 6 or so
      Thursday--A fairly 'zippy' 10/11 miles
      Friday--Easy 6 or so
      Saturday--14+ w/group
      Sunday--10 to 15

There's generally 18-25 miles of running w/the Mrs in there also. Sometimes it's in addition to the above, or we use her run as my recovery run. Ends up being around 70 miles per week.

I'm not really sure how well how this would line up with any particular race plan, but for now I'm having fun.

Are you trying to get back into some running? Or have you been running all along, but you don't (gasp!) post it on Strava?

Yes, I'm using Zwift right now. I'm not sure whether it's the best program for what I have in mind. I don't really care for the "social" aspect of Zwift. I don't want to race. I want to do structured training.

Oh, rest assured that if I could run like you do I'd post it everywhere! 🙂

I suck at running. On a good day I can run 6-7 miles, but I need an hour for that and then I'm done for the rest of the day.

The good thing about cycling is that I can do it way longer. I can control the intensity. With running, one can run slower, but even at a slow pace it's too exhausting for me to do it for hours. Last Saturday I burned 2000kcal on a group ride. Couldn't do that with running.

In the long term, I'm also a little worried that running wouldn't be good for joints etc., but I hear rather conflicting things about that issue.

How do you like Zwift? The reason I am ask is that the CEO mentioned that they may come out with something for rowing. I have a rower (Concept 2) and might be interested if the Zwift is good. Do you buy it once or pay each month?

You have to pay every month. It’s expensive.

Finally got off my fat ass and took a ride.

                  2020-06-07-15-34-17-Afternoon-Ride-Ride-Strava.jpg

It has been a few years since I did this. I was feeling good the entire time. It was hot so i consumed more than 1/2 of a 16 oz water bottle on the ride.

I am going to do this humble route every day, for a week. Then bump it up to 10 miles maybe 15 depending on how a feel for q week. I will be back doing 20-30 miles a day in a month or less.

                  Back in the saddle baby!

3.5 miles today, then got dumped on so I stopped. I'm up to 6 daily, though, and am breaking through to a 10' average mile time.

And holy CRAP was it that today. Not only with the heat and humidity, I mean it literally: the football field I use as an emergency cut-through sometimes was flooded. My shoes were fully soaked when I got back. Flies, gnats, mosquitos everyplace.

It's been so rare that I've had even decent running conditions that I don't even care anymore. I just expect it to be disgusting.

Got 7 miles today. Slow avg pace—12 minute mile or so.

                                        Swamp running is worth 1.5x

And holy CRAP was it that today. Not only with the heat and humidity, I mean it literally: the football field I use as an emergency cut-through sometimes was flooded. My shoes were fully soaked when I got back. Flies, gnats, mosquitos everyplace.

It's been so rare that I've had even decent running conditions that I don't even care anymore. I just expect it to be disgusting.

Yeah it has been the worst summer in memory for dew point. Consistently over 70 and that is every bit as bad as high temperature. You are not imagining things. Next week looks awesome, don’t miss it.

For those interested in how many steps per day they accrue, here is a conversion chart that converts various activities into equivalent numbers of steps.

For instance, chopping wood for 15 minutes is the same as walking 1995 steps.
