Feudalism against capitalism. The end was predetermined short of British entry.

Yeah, the economic base was already laid. The South lost the ultimate war before they ever fired a shot. But the short term tactical win would have had a dramatic effect on federal vs state power.

Atlanta would be the capital
Trump Tower would be in Savannah
Adolph Hitler would have been compared to Abe Lincoln

You know, if the South had actually pushed harder in the opening months, they would have won… I think. We would still be in a pretty similar place as we are today, but with a far different outlook.

We'd be a lot more like the Federal-State relationship of 1840, than what we are today. The Feds would be what, maybe 25% the size of the current government?

And if Napoleon had won the Battle of Hastings (which he clearly would have done if he'd actually shown up) we'd all be speaking Dutch.

Odd how people seem to think the south could have won and yet we’d somehow have become one nation in time to turn the tide in the world wars. I think it’s at least as likely that had the south won we’d be speaking German.

For some reason, I'm reminded of Jeremy Corbyn's claims that he won the argument.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. If the south had won, I bed the north would've remained united as we are today, just smaller... and the south would've just been a united set of highly individual states that likely would've eventually led to more fighting. I'd imagine the north would've taken over the westward expansion of the country, too.

The westward expansion probably would have been negotiated north and south of some parallel. My guess anyway.

If the Japanese had hit our oil reserves at Pearl Harbor, we would all be speaking Japanese.
Or the Japanese would all be speaking Russian.

Inspired by SNL, a panel discussion called "What If?" takes viewers' questions about ridiculous topics, including this week's question: what if Napoleon had access to a B-52 Bomber plane?,

Luke got me a ridiculously fun book called “What If” where a physicist with a sense of humor answers some bizarrely out there rhetorical questions… I’ll post a couple.

It’s the xkcd guy. They’re great.
My favorite is the one where he compares the energy your body would take (its its last picosecond of existence) if (a) the sun went supernova vs (b) a hydrogen bomb detonated on the surface of your eye.
The sun going supernova wins.
Which is fucking amazing.

Those aren't B52s, so it's obviously a ridiculous question.

I think I have mentioned this a couple times, a book I would love to write but probably never will. It would be non-fiction, but it would be a series of real world butterfly effects of sorts, where I track one small incident and the ripple effect it has throughout history, for example, the assassination of archduke Ferdinand leading to rocket travel.
