That's without even addressing the obvious digs in the list. This wasn't even an attempt to explain "whiteness" with generalities. The game was, "how can we vilify this group? Let's see, let's throw in some contradictions, some intolerance because everyone knows how intolerant The Whites are, some silly things we want to make fun of and call them White based on I-have-no-idea-what... there we go, good list."

Regarding the Smithsonian poster - those attributes represent the stereotypical "white."

I have no idea what in the fuck that's even supposed to mean. It's as ridiculous and racist as drawing conclusions about "the blacks" or "those Asians."

No, it isn't. It's different. The other way around it's racist, but this way it isn't because shut up.

It's not even a funny list. It's not a list of silly stereotypes that are typically attributed to white people: mac & cheese, Kenny G, gluten aversions and the like. That I could get behind, because, okay, jokes. Instead, they might as well have labeled this raciographic as "Why White People Suck."

I am now WOKE. I see now that I have been wrong my entire life for seeing all people as equal, and seeing all races as equal. I should have been a racist all along. Henceforth I now know that the Red Man is racially superior, blacks and whites both have been my oppressors, and from today forward will demand that all you coons and crackers treat me like the superior human that I am....

Wow... what a sense of power I'm getting from the realization that I am your superior!!!

                  Now BOW, honky!

Here's the real dangers in that poster IMO:

                            1. "Self-reliance - Independence & autonomy highly valued + rewarded" these are positive human attributes regardless of race... Every person should aspire to those ideals. I would think that a race that spent 300 years in slavery would particularly value independence and autonomy. To do otherwise is to ask for shackles.

"Emphasis on Scientific Method - Objective, rational thinking - Cause and effect relationships - Quantitative emphasis" again, what's the problem? Seems pretty reasonable to me. What is the reasonable alternative? By the way, empirical methods for both science and social issues were first developed and used in Northern Africa...

"Justice - Based on English common law" Not entirely, especially since English common law has influences from around the world, but aside from that, yeah? So what? Got something better? Didn't think so.

                            1. They then sprinkle the above statements into absolutely absurd stereotypes like "Win at all costs - Wife subordinate to the husband - If you didn't reach your goals, you didn't work hard enough" in an obvious attempt to paint those other ideals as being equally ludicrous.

Is there a similar poster about values of other cultures? I would be fascinated to see it, if anybody can link to one.

Hell, I'd like to see a poster like that about black cultures.

Can you imagine if there were comments about black aesthetics? It would be branded as racist faster than you can say Sir-Mix-A-Lot.

                                  LuFins Dad, great post above!

Actually, lots of great posts in this thread.

But none of you have been able to answer what to me is a fundamental question, which is:

If a black man and a white woman have a kid,
                                  why isn't the kid gray?
                                  hmmm?

That doesn’t change the fact that somebody actually created the chart and it was approved for publication and posting. I am still flabbergasted that they disparaged autonomy and independence as “whiteness”.
