Republican-led push to expel George Santos fails in the House

The resolution needed a two-thirds majority to succeed, but fell well short. The final vote was 179 to 213 with 19 members voting present.

    Good.

When convicted, they can toss him.

If reprehensible behavior is the key to expulsion, have I got a couple of hate-spewing antisemites for your consideration.

      So Gaetz next?

On what grounds, being an a-hole?

AFAIK the ethics charges against him are questionable and there are no indictments.

Each House [of Congress] may determine the Rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two-thirds, expel a member.

Nothing there about ethics committees, convictions, etc… Would you say Gaetz’s attacks on McConnell were disorderly? And do you think you could get enough votes?

How about Omar? Or Tlaib in the Senate? Think you could get 17 Dems in the Senate to vote for expulsion? There are currently 9 Jewish Democrat Senators… Add in Manchin, Sinema, Lurch… I bet you could find 17 members, especially since she’s attacking the sitting President with an upcoming election…

        Tlaib is in the House

        Only non-witches get due process.

I realize that. IT's their house and they make the rules.

            Gaetz? Disorderly? Of course.
Lurch hasn't been out of line that I've seen, other than his attire.
            Tlaib...yeah.

The majority controls the committees, and I have little doubt that they will, um, suggest to their members to follow the lines that leadership should be followed.

(too lazy to look it up)

Have there been similar findings by the ethics committee in the past where members have not been expelled?

It doesn’t really matter. Now that the step has been taken, it will be easier the next. When have you seen our political leaders not take a new precedent and new authority and abuse it?

There have been only six members expelled from the House.

“This is not a casual vote for us. It’s something you take very seriously and and he should have taken it seriously,” Pelosi told reporters following the vote, adding that he “should have been man about it.”

                                  Be a man — I hadn't heard that in a while.

Was that a one-time pot shot, just for Santos? He's gay, right? On any other day, you'd be canceled for advising the gay man... or any man... to "be a man." But on very special days, there's one person who liberates everyone to say what they really think.

We were kicking him, and he moved his ass.

"Pelosi calls Santos a ‘coward’ for leaving chamber before expulsion vote closed" (The Hill).

Days after the House of Representatives voted to expel Santos, the former congressman has already taken up a side gig recording personalized videos for a fee on the Cameo website. One of his first customers, it seems, was Fetterman, who then posted the video Santos recorded on Instagram.

"I thought my ethically-challenged colleague @senatormenendez could use some encouragement given his substantial legal problems," Fetterman said of the video he commissioned. "So, I approached a seasoned expert on the matter to give 'Bobby from Jersey' some advice."

(From what I heard, George Santos did not know it was specifically for Sen. Menendez and did not know if was from Sen. Fetterman. Also, I heard that Mr. Santos has made a TON of money doing these Cameo videos at USD$350 per video - like $250000 in the last couple of days)

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Six months to sentencing? Seems odd.
