LOL x100
Also, @LuFins-Dad - good call on the non-irony of Gaetz voting with dems to get something passed.

Newt speaks.
“Kevin McCarthy is one of the most talented leaders I’ve ever worked with. I think that he accomplished an amazing amount while having a small majority” and battling both the Senate and the White House. He called the outcome “tragic.”
“The University of Georgia Bulldogs is the number one team in the country now. If you started a game, and four of the members of the offensive squad decided they were actually on the Alabama side and begin tackling your own people, you’d probably get them off the field.”
“Think about what we saw today,” he continued. “Four percent—four percent—[of the Republican caucus] decided they were so morally superior, so intellectually pure, so patriotically better, that they would side with the Democrats. That’s what they did in order to defeat the entire Republican House caucus.” He called the eight Republicans who sided with Democrats “traitors” who should be primaried and “driven out of public life.”
“They [chose] to go to the other team to cause total chaos.” And instead of focusing on issues that matter to the American people, “You’re gonna get a week or ten days of the media focusing on Republican disarray. It’s an astonishingly destructive behavior by a handful of egocentric people who think they’re superior to 96% of the country.”

I think he's right. I'm astonished the Republicans - well, that small faction - could be that stupid.
Say what you will about Pelosi, this would not have happened on her side of the aisle.

Indeed. She ran a disciplined ship. When someone wanted to vote against her agenda, as long as she had enough votes to guarantee a victory, she'd let the prodigal legislator vote his/her desire, if for no other reason than to save face.
But, then there's always payback, which, I'm sure, she expected.
Speaking of which, I wonder how much "Target-On-My-Back" Gaetz (et al) will have to endure in the next 15 months. GOP leadership is, undoubtedly unhappy. I'm sure there will be repercussions in committee assignments, etc.

He represents an 80% Republican district. The best bet will be the congressional investigations already ongoing.

One of the rumors is that Gaetz wanted McCarthy out because of those investigations. In fact, McCarthy said so last night, while pointing out that those investigations started before he was Speaker.

Pence weighs in, and i think he nails it too. This is very bad for the GOP leading into primary season.

Maybe it helps open the door for a moderate 3rd party option? It could also help galvanize the party against the MAGATS.

Maybe elect an Independent to be the next Speaker, with votes from both major parties.
