Fucking hell.
You're right. The idea that you could get anywhere near to hitting a flying child with a cannonball is frankly laughable.
Unless of course their balls were covered in pixie dust.
Wait, which balls? Maybe that’s why all the Lost Boys are Girls? The guys didn’t make it?
-
Frankly, I don’t mind lost girls, Asian/Indian Peters, or black Tinkerbrlls. The reason for the changes does bother me.
Stop pandering.

He is into classic comedies. Laurel & Hardy, 3 Stooges, Marx Brothers, Abbott and Costello and most recently, Jack Benny. Also really into Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and strangely enough, Keeping Up Appearances and, Time Goes By.
He has just turned 16.

The only decent thing on Disney these days is Bluey…

That's not even Disney, they just bought the rights.

I freaking love Peter Pan, it's a brilliant story. And it can totally work with Pan being Indian, black, whatever. But you don't just slap an ethnic kid in the role and say, "we've improved the story!" That's fucking obscene.
Disney has been "improving" classic children's fiction ever since they started making movies.
And they used to do a great job of it. I'm friends with a guy who drew a lot of the stuff for Aladdin. The Disney of today can't hold a candle to what they had before, and their approach to storytelling has radically changed for the worse since the late 90s.
You know, I will disagree a little with that. Encanto may have been the best Disney movie that I have seen in quite a while. Everything else has been Jack shit.
Encanto sucked

I'm in the middle on it. It had some good elements, but I'm getting a little tired of the Millennial hero story of making their parents apologize for being meanies.

The visuals were great. The story was awful.
Oh but the songs though, Mik, the SONGS!
Lemme tell you something about those fucking songs. Miranda would be unstoppable if he had any discipline. I said what I said.
Hamilton can go fuck itself, too.

Yes, yes that is the thing.
-
@Mik said in Woke Disney:
Hamilton was In The Heights set to American history. I greatly respect both shows, OK, fine. So what next? Do you repeat the hip hop musical format ad nauseum?
That's part of what I mean about the lack of discipline.
That and way too many lines that sound good and make absolutely no fucking sense whatsoever. It ATCQ, Faithless, Jurassic 5, J Dilla, De La Soul and even Ren Gill of all people can write clever lyrics without resorting to no-context non-sequiturs, then what the fuck is holding Miranda back?

Beats the Menendez Solution.

I'm just afraid they will fuck with West Side Story even more than Spielberg did.
I met a transgender named Maria...
Well, it's based on Romeo and Juliet, and Shakespeare's plays frequently got pretty gender-fluid due to the shortage of female actors. There'd often be a male actor impersonating a female impersonating a male - it's a running joke

Maria...I just met a boy named Maria....

Similar history with Chinese classical opera at one point. Some opera companies were all-male (so female roles were played by male actors) and considered having a female in the company "shameful."
