I went way humming the scenery, not the songs.

Frankly, I don’t mind lost girls, Asian/Indian Peters, or black Tinkerbrlls. The reason for the changes does bother me.
Stop pandering.

Yes, yes that is the thing.

Hamilton was In The Heights set to American history. I greatly respect both shows, OK, fine. So what next? Do you repeat the hip hop musical format ad nauseum?

I'm just afraid they will fuck with West Side Story even more than Spielberg did.

That's part of what I mean about the lack of discipline.
That and way too many lines that sound good and make absolutely no fucking sense whatsoever. It ATCQ, Faithless, Jurassic 5, J Dilla, De La Soul and even Ren Gill of all people can write clever lyrics without resorting to no-context non-sequiturs, then what the fuck is holding Miranda back?

I freaking love Peter Pan, it's a brilliant story. And it can totally work with Pan being Indian, black, whatever. But you don't just slap an ethnic kid in the role and say, "we've improved the story!" That's fucking obscene.
Disney has been "improving" classic children's fiction ever since they started making movies.
And they used to do a great job of it. I'm friends with a guy who drew a lot of the stuff for Aladdin. The Disney of today can't hold a candle to what they had before, and their approach to storytelling has radically changed for the worse since the late 90s.
You know, I will disagree a little with that. Encanto may have been the best Disney movie that I have seen in quite a while. Everything else has been Jack shit.
Encanto sucked
I'm in the middle on it. It had some good elements, but I'm getting a little tired of the Millennial hero story of making their parents apologize for being meanies.

Well, it's based on Romeo and Juliet, and Shakespeare's plays frequently got pretty gender-fluid due to the shortage of female actors. There'd often be a male actor impersonating a female impersonating a male - it's a running joke

Similar history with Chinese classical opera at one point. Some opera companies were all-male (so female roles were played by male actors) and considered having a female in the company "shameful." :man-shrugging:

I’m surprised that hasn’t caused more outrage… I think I would wind becoming a viral sensation if I had taken my little girl to get princessed up and had this guy guy come out in a dress…
I thought “passing” was supposed to be an important goal?

Somewhat related... yesterday at the pool there were 3 kids, don't know... maybe ages 9 or 10. One kid kept saying, and what I presume was a joke, "hey you're misgendering me! you're misgendering me!". She was clearly a girl, but still... sad to hear such a phrase from such a young kid.

That they even have the concept at that age is sickening.
