We’ve got a B, which is surprising. I see cars everywhere

LD - it’s all a comparison to before so even if people are driving locally there are thousands that aren’t commuting to DC every day.

I’m sure that gives us our good numbers.

Rachel and I go out every day for a walk. We often try new spots that require us to drive 2-7 miles each way.

But she’s not commuting to Manhattan 5 days a week.

        Only non-witches get due process.

Why can't we employ the GPS tracking on our phone in the same way Taiwan is? I mean, the NSA already is, actively. Why the hell not turn that data into something useful for public health?

          Please love yourself.

My town: B-. My county: D-.

How this work, what would we track?

@Loki The folks who test positive should all have their contacts notified. We already do that but I understand that's a voluntary process. It shouldn't be voluntary.

And when you're out, you should be notified via alert message when you get within X feet of someone who has Y degrees of known social separation away from someone who tested positive. We can already do this, very easily.

                Please love yourself.

My county gets a B- , and the closest county gets a B. Kind of surprised at both of those, but it's a good surprise.

We could ship everyone tested positive to a leper colony, very easily.

                    Very easily isn't the problem.

And that’s the battle that will play out this summer as we decide whether we’ll be a ‘test and trace’ country or a ‘successive wave’ country. At least until vaccine.

No, of course I was just joking. I think we should let the market decide and prioritize safety with who's actually contributing to the economy right now. If you're not a current contributor then what does society owe you?

I just read a second person account of someone who’s Mom went back to South Korea and the GPS tracking app is exactly what she got along with other materials to survive the quarantine. It is a fascinating question as to whether Americans would agree to that. Just thinking about the Patriot Act for example.

My town is pretty OCD - so A. We have little traffic. People are out walking their dogs, some running. I run on the street and keep about 20 feet from anyone either direction. What's amusing to me is that is not enough for some folks. They will move across the street so we have 60-80 feet of distance. Go figure.

Driving through Chicago late at night - and got an emergency text saying - "you shouldn't be here" - kind of a Big Brother feeling to that.

If anyone had ever bothered to read the documents that Snowden leaked, it would be a lot more common knowledge that that level of surveillance is not only going on right now, but it's been automated. If we're already doing it then what's the problem?

@Loki The folks who test positive should all have their contacts notified. We already do that but I understand that's a voluntary process. It shouldn't be voluntary.

And when you're out, you should be notified via alert message when you get within X feet of someone who has Y degrees of known social separation away from someone who tested positive. We can already do this, very easily.

I just read a second person account of someone who’s Mom went back to South Korea and the GPS tracking app is exactly what she got along with other materials to survive the quarantine. It is a fascinating question as to whether Americans would agree to that. Just thinking about the Patriot Act for example.

If anyone had ever bothered to read the documents that Snowden leaked, it would be a lot more common knowledge that that level of surveillance is not only going on right now, but it's been automated. If we're already doing it then what's the problem?

My guess would be that the body count would be the only material decider of our collective opinion.

I’m not sure about that. As the virus peaks wait for the next wave about jobs. This storm is going to be a lot shorter than the misery that follows. The layoffs and furloughs have only just begun.

Why can't we employ the GPS tracking on our phone in the same way Taiwan is? I mean, the NSA already is, actively. Why the hell not turn that data into something useful for public health?

How this work, what would we track?

People were required to input their local address along with their mobile phone number. They were then linked and through an app, if the phone was outside the local address, they would get a notification that could be followed by a visit and fine.

In addition, they would at random time send you a text (or call you) that you had to respond to to ensure you weren't just leaving your phone at home and going out.
